Job Title: Specimen Processor

Job Description

As a Specimen Processor, you will be responsible for handling incoming samples, inputting data into the computer system, and creating labeling for samples. Your role includes receiving, identifying, labeling, and processing specimens as required. You will manage multiple tasks between different types of requisitions and maintain departmental production goals to ensure consistent hourly specimen flow to the labs. Additionally, you will review, transcribe, and enter demographic and specimen data into the laboratory information system with 100% accuracy, recognize specimen problems, and refer them to designated personnel. You will also perform supply maintenance and cleanup duties to enhance workflow and efficiency. This role requires handling sealed samples, including COVID-19 , blood, stool, urine, biopsies, etc., while wearing proper personal protective equipment and following World Health Organization’s guidelines.

Hard Skills

  • High school diploma/GED

  • Typing test passed with at least 7500 keystrokes per hour and 95% accuracy or higher

  • Previous laboratory experience

  • Previous overnight experience

Soft Skills

  • Ability to handle all specimen types

  • Multi-tasking

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to follow strict safety and health guidelines

Job Type

This is a Contract-to-Hire position with a duration of 4 Month(s).

Work Site

This is a fully on-site position in Elmwood Park, New Jersey.

Work Environment

You will work in a large specimen processing room, logging patient information on sample tubes and ensuring data accuracy. The role involves working with over 80 people on the night shift to support work volume. Approximately 90-100% of the shift is spent typing and sitting at a computer. Safety precautions are implemented, although there is limited space for social distancing.
