Franklin Pierce University Nursing Faculty (School of Nursing Faculty) in Manchester, New Hampshire

Job Summary:

This position is responsible to teach courses in accordance with the schedule of classes and follow the approved course descriptions and syllabi established by the appropriate Curriculum Committee and administered by the DON and the Dean.

Typical Schedule:

This is an appointed faculty position as governed by the Faculty Protocol, the Faculty Resource Handbook, and the Nursing Faculty Handbook. Days, occasional evening or weekend hours as required. 

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

Instructional:

• Teach assigned courses in accordance with the course syllabus and University and college policy.

• Continue to update and revise course content and teaching methodology in order to maintain   currency and relevance.

• Maintain familiarity with current texts, materials, teaching aids and techniques relative to courses within the discipline and recommend their adoption when appropriate.

• Actively seek ways to improve instruction.

• Provide advice and/or assistance to associate faculty in regard to course content and instructional materials.

Academic Advising:

• Post and observe office hours for purposes of academic advising and student consultation.  Hold office hours at times that are most convenient for students. 

• Advise and assist students developing an educational plan.

• Maintain general knowledge of degree requirements, programs and course transfer information, and relevant University policies.

Institutional Service:

• Actively participate in department, college, and University-wide committees.

• Attend scheduled department, college, and University-wide meetings.

• Actively participate in assisting the University in maintaining standards required for accreditation.

• Participate in full regalia in official commencement ceremonies.

• Attend other official functions as deemed appropriate by the DON and Dean.

• Perform other duties as determined in consultation with the Director of the School of Nursing. 

Professional Growth and Development:

• Maintain a program of personal and professional development appropriate for areas of responsibility.

• Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge and competence in the appropriate academic disciplines.

• Maintain scholarship activities in accordance with Faculty Protocol.

• Participate in community activities and services.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Meet requirements articulated in the Faculty Protocol.

• Other duties as assigned.

Expectations:

• Ability to handle highly confidential material, possess a high level of integrity and understanding that all University information should only be disclosed to others who have a need to know, for legitimate business reasons.  Have the ability to exercise and apply sound judgment and decision-making skills as well as the ability to maintain integrity and confidentiality of data.

• Demonstrate commitment to the academic programs within a multi-campus University serving a variety of adult undergraduate and graduate students.

• Maintain active nursing license in the state of New Hampshire or a compact state.

• Coordinate, plan, organize, and instruct assigned courses. 

• Demonstrate thoroughness in planning and organizing instruction materials.

• Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students, including using available instructional technology when appropriate.

• Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse students' needs and maximize student learning.

• Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments.

• Possesses a high level of expertise in the subjects taught and stimulate enthusiasm for those subjects.

• Ensures that each program/class contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and maintains currency.

• Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Works effectively as a team member.

  • Takes an active role in recruiting new students.

  • Embraces the mission of the School of Nursing, the College of Health and Natural Science, and Franklin Pierce University.• Ability to carry out all responsibilities and objectives in a professional manner

  • Ability to maintain professionalism when dealing with all staff, students and other customers.

  • Ability to accept and render constructive criticism in a professional manner

  • Adhere to the policies and procedures established by the School of Nursing and the University

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

    Applicant must be able to successfully complete a background check.  Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to travel to campus locations.

    POSITION SPECIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

    Previous Experience:  Previous online teaching experience and curriculum development preferred. Experienced in didactic prelicensure nursing education with a focus on medical-surgical nursing, and nursing fundamentals.

    Knowledge and Education:  Master Degree in Nursing or related profession required, doctorate preferred.

    Machines, Tools, Equipment, Electronic Devices and Software:   Applicant must be proficient in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, Access, and computer skills.

    License(s) and Certificate(s):  Must hold an unencumbered license 'to practice nursing in New Hampshire or another compact state.

    Physical Activity/Effort:  Applicant must be physically able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.  While performing required job tasks, applicant must be physically able to remain seated for long periods of time or able to remain standing for long periods of time.  Must possesses dexterity to perform typing, operate a computer and other office equipment.
