Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital Exercise Physiologist in Manistique, Michigan

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assists cardiovascular disease patients lower their heart rates and works with post-surgical patients to regain strength after surgery by teaching patients how to use fitness and exercise to their advantage. Assesses patient fitness levels and designs specific treatment plans that help patients reach optimal health.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Field, such as Exercise Science, or licensure in the jurisdiction.

  • BLS Certification.

  • ACLS Certification.

  • Experience or specialty training in Cardiovascular Rehabilitation.

  • Basic knowledge of Exercise Physiology, Nutrition, Risk factors and behavior modification strategies, counseling techniques, and uses of education programs and technologies as applied to Cardiovascular Rehabilitation.

  • Experience in Exercise program planning, supervision and counseling with Cardiovascular Rehabilitation patients.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assures patient safety by providing education and close monitoring of patients.

  • Institutes emergency measures for patients with chest pain, arrhythmias and/or cardiac arrest.

  • Reports pertinent patient data to cardiac rehab team and physician.

  • Evaluates hemodynamic and psychological response to exercise, establishes priorities of care, modifies exercise plan as necessary.

  • Designs individual exercise prescriptions based on patient/client age, growth and developmental stage, needs and treatment plan; sets goals, prescribes appropriate actions to meet the goals, implements plan.

  • Assures proper maintenance of safe use of equipment within department.

  • Effectively identifies, studies, and solves problem situations promptly.

  • Assures patient education for all patients based upon age, knowledge level, development stage, needs assessment and treatment plan.

  • Acts as a role model for personnel in clinical expertise, professionalism, attitude, and public relations.

  • Assesses the patient’s condition and needs as appropriate for their age, growth and development level; sets goals, prescribes appropriate actions to meet the goals and physical, psychological, social, rehabilitative and educational needs of this adult/geriatric population.

  • Performs equipment maintenance and cleaning according to manufacturers standards.

  • Performs daily statistical and monetary checks and balances in accordance with departmental policy.

  • Utilizes excellent customer service skills at all times.

  • Provides leadership in conducting exercise sessions and monitoring clients.

  • Coordinates scheduling for patients.

  • Demonstrate appropriateness in meeting objectives in age-specifics.

  • Performs other duties as assigned. (Stress Testing, Holter monitor and Ambulatory BP monitoring.
