Under general direction, the Microgrid Solutions Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying, developing, implementing, and executing strategies for new revenue generation in the assigned industry. This involves having an expert understanding of the current market landscape and prevailing business models, calling on prospective customers at all levels of the client organization (C-level, Procurement, Field Service, etc.), assessing their needs and associated challenges to meet them, leading a development effort to put together a wholistic energy solution to address those challenges and meet the customer needs with an ecosystem of Generac and other strategic partners, leading cross-functional teams with a thorough technical and commercial knowledge of all phases of the sales cycle, including developing proposals (including customized and complex technical bids), providing technical support post sale and over the long term developing and managing a set of strategic customer and enabling partner accounts with an associated pipeline of projects to grow Generac’s presence in the assigned industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Map out the current, emerging players and business models in the Northeast and identify how Generac can play a role with our suite of on-site power and energy solutions.

  • Partner with Generac’s Grid Services business to provide full hardware (On-site power and energy) + software (Energy management) suite of solutions, where applicable, to support partners and projects.

  • Develop a clear understanding of the technology mix (engines, fuel cells, storage, PV, energy management, EVSE’s etc.) and the value proposition associated with them in a variety of projects.

  • Lead the development of the regional business strategy and lead opportunities leveraging a cross functional team to ideate and propose solutions.

  • Actively develop new business by building out and managing a pipeline of projects to supply on-site power and energy solutions and grow Generac’s business and presence in this space.

  • Be a thought leadership champion in the assigned industry to raise awareness of Generac and our products and solutions.

  • Achieve Microgrid Solutions sales targets in assigned geography.

  • Keeps an updated opportunity pipeline and regularly tracks and reports on progress toward sales goals.

  • ​Identify and build microgrid solution opportunities with all relevant stakeholders within End User’s and channel partners.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience

Work Experience

  • 8 years of sales or business development experience selling directly into the assigned industry.

  • Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to travel up to 50%.

  • Understanding of the energy needs and challenges faced by customers in the assigned industry and the business models around procuring energy solutions.

  • Demonstrated caliber to take on open ended challenges, innovate around business models, create partner ecosystems, and develop new business.

  • Demonstrated skills around being an energy solutions architect.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage key accounts.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent presentation skills

  • Excellent negotiation skills

  • Organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently in an entrepreneurial culture.

  • Ability to analyze financials.

  • Knowledge of the internal processes and systems that support sales accounts.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education:

Master’s Degree or Doctorate Degree.

Work Experience:

10 years of sales or business development experience selling directly into the assigned industry.

Significant established relationships in the assigned industry.

Compensation : Energy Systems is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. This role is eligible for variable compensation including short term and long-term incentives.

Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
