PenFed is hiring a (Hybrid) Director, Payments Transformation at our Tysons, Virginia location. The primary purpose of this role is to lead in the development of a payments and money movement transformation roadmap, and work with internal and external partners to design and launch new capabilities that provides a best-in-class member experience. The incumbent will launch new capabilities, optimize current processes and enhance our payment and money movement offerings across all product lines. This role helps develop and translate strategy to execution by collaborating cross-functionally to transform PenFed’s payments capabilities with appropriate controls and fraud/risk guardrails.

  • Lead payments and money movement transformation initiatives focused on delivering strategic, operational, technical, and/or product development changes such as new product launches, business process improvements, and technology integrations and deployments associated with existing and new business and technology strategies.

  • Identify end-to-end opportunities across Check processing, ACH, Wires, P2P, Faster Payments and Real Time Payments that will support PenFed’s growth across Deposits, Secured and Unsecured Lending.

  • Manage the Payments product roadmap and develop a structured and consistent approach to business case development with a focus on ROI and member experience.

  • Successfully manage highly visible, innovative, complex, critical and strategic products/programs.

  • Support delivery of payments related business models and end-to-end process re-design; assess the current state of payments and money movement across business, operations and IT, identify gaps and key pain points, develop recommendations aligned to industry leading practices, define a target state operating model, and develop high level conceptual and detailed designs for the future state.

  • Develop and build project knowledge across areas including scope definition, business case development, financial analysis and modelling, requirements gathering, functional and technical design, vendor assessment, testing, training, and implementation phases.

  • Lead the development of executive briefings, dashboards, reports, and findings in a clear, logical, and concise manner.

  • Develop relationships with key stakeholders across the organization including Technology, Business and Product leads, User Experience, Payment Operations, Fraud and Compliance to deliver new capabilities that enhance the member experience.

Qualifications

An equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

  • Bachelor's Degree required. Master’s degree in business is preferred.

  • Minimum of twelve (12) years of work experience with ten (10) years in financial services, retail banking or related field with payments and money movement experience.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of U.S. consumer banking landscape and key Payment (Check, Wire, ACH, Faster Payments, P2P, Real Time Payments) platforms, operational processes, business architecture and technologies is required.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of direct management experience.

  • Demonstrated project management experience with developing and launching digital technologies with a strong consumer orientation.

  • Strong understanding and prior experience with process improvement tools and frameworks such as Lean and Six Sigma.

  • Experience with compliance/regulations as it related to payments (NACHA rules, Reg E, etc.)

  • Experience in defining and building out overall strategies and implementation roadmaps.

  • Previous payments related experience and knowledge of retail and/or commercial payments including origination, processing, balancing, clearing and settlement, and fraud is required.

  • Experience working with vendors such as Fiserv, Finicity, FIS, a big plus.

  • Structured thinker and strong communicator with excellent written communication skills with the ability to consolidate complex topics and detail into digestible and actionable content for Executive presentations.

  • Experience in working in a fast-paced dynamic environment while managing multiple projects and competing priorities.

  • Experience working from strategy through execution including organizational change, developing and implementing creative solutions.

  • Strong analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will supervise employees.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.

Travel

The ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call will be required.
