Summary
CHS, Inc. has an exciting opportunity at our oil refinery facility in McPherson, KS. We are looking for an Occupational Health Nurse to promote the health and safety of employees and their work environment by coordinating, developing, implementing, and maintaining programs and practices to optimize employee health, prevent illness and injury, and reduce health hazards. You must have strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, proven ability to build strong working relationships, and ability to manage work in a fast-paced environment are essential.
Responsibilities
Administer health care services to employees with occupational illnesses/injuries within the scope of the Kansas Nurse Practice Act. Make referrals for employees in need of additional medical care
Function as a member of the CHS McPherson Refinery Plant Emergency Response Team (PERT).
Direct case management for employees with occupational illness/injuries from onset of illness/injury to safe return to work or optimal alternative.
Manage, coordinate, and execute medical programs in compliance with regulations and laws governing the health and safety of employees and their work environment, including (but not limited to):
Drug and Alcohol Testing
Pulmonary Function Testing
Respirator Fit Testing
Hearing Conservation
Ergonomics and Medical Assessments
Annual flu shots
Manage the administrative and operational activities of occupational health services, including (but not limited to):
Maintain and secure all required records in compliance with federal and state regulations.
Manage occupational injury/illness accident data and provide statistical reports.
Manage worker’s compensation program and communicate with Human Resources department regarding employee restrictions and return to work.
Schedule return to work, Fire Brigade, and new hire physicals.
Coordinate with outside resources (healthcare providers, third-party administers, regulatory agencies, etc.)
Maintain adequate inventories of hearing protection, first-aid supplies, and other safety, health and wellness supplies and equipment.
Prepare and monitor the budget for Health Services with periodic cost containment analysis of operating costs, vendors, medical providers, etc.
Drive proactive and preventive occupational health and safety practices, including (but not limited to):
Develop and present educational programs to all CHS McPherson Refinery and affiliated employees.
Assist with industrial hygiene monitoring and health hazard assessment.
Investigate, evaluate, and implement preventative measures in response to incidents.
Keep up-to-date with industry and regulatory developments, guidance, and best practices.
Assist with development of policies/procedures related to workplace health and safety.
Meet continuing education requirements necessary for credentialing and continue to pursue professional development relating to occupational health.
Perform additional duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
Associate's degree in nursing (ADN)
Current state of Kansas registered nursing license
4+ years of relevant experience
Additional Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Experience working in Occupational Health
Experience working in an emergency or first response capacity
Certified specimen collector
Ability to use computer software applications, including Microsoft Office suite and health information management systems
A COHN (American Board for Occupational Health Nurses)
CAOHC certified audiometry
NIOSH certified spirometry
Working knowledge of regulatory requirements (i.e. OSHA, Workers Compensation, ADA, and FMLA)
