Health First Surgery Center GI Technician-GI Lab Endoscopy in Melbourne, Florida

POSITION SUMMARY:

To provide Uncompromised Safety, Superior Quality, Memorable Patient/Customer Experiences, and Financial Stewardship by assisting the endoscopy staff and physicians. Work related responsibilities will be directed by an RN, who will contribute to optimal patient outcomes by providing delegated patient care activities, care and cleaning of endoscopy equipment and supplies. Technical activities include performing the GI technician role within the Endoscopy Department.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Engagement:

  • Associate supports engagement through adherence to the Health First I CARE values.

Quality/No Harm:

  • Assist the physician and RN during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Clean scopes / equipment following appropriate infection control procedures.
  • Assists in collecting data for an objective assessment to identify patient's needs, problems, concerns, and reports accurately to RN.
  • Assist, under the direction of the RN, in the implementation of the established plan of care and responds to emergency situations
  • Conducts or arranges for 1 in-service per year.
  • Performs QI, product in-service, completion of yearly Competency Assessment, and Age Specific Checklist.
  • Accurately records, handles and labels specimens obtained during Endoscopy procedures.
  • Provide and maintain a safe environment for the Endoscopy patients. Including right patient and right procedure, right date of birth.
  • Accurately inputs Endoworks system with proper patient information.
  • Be knowledgeable about professional and practice issues related to the field of Gastroenterology/endoscopy by attending in-services/seminars.

  • Introduces self to patient by name and position.
  • Wears name badge. No complaints on patient evaluation.
  • Provides services to patients and families with sensitivity and respect for their needs, expectations, age, culture, and individual differences in a respectful and confidential manner.

  • Demonstrates dependability, reliability, and flexibility.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • H. S. graduate or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years’ experience as Surgical Technologist or GI Technician - preferred.
  • Must hold current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Exposure to bio hazardous waste, substances and unknown diseases.
  • Vision and hearing corrected to normal range.
  • Sitting and standing for extensive periods of time.
  • Frequent lifting, pulling, reaching and carrying of light to heavy patients and/or objects.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs. unassisted up to 6 times daily.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend and stoop for 90% of assigned shift.

MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Working under stressful situations.
  • Continuous concentration on an activity.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to manage confused/combative patients.

COMPETENCY ASSESSMENT/SKILLS CHECKLIST:

  • Must meet the GI Technician competency assessment/skills checklist requirements within 3 months of employment and annually.
