Purpose/Context of the Role:

  • The role of Senior Specialist, Sustainable Packaging, sits within the Sustainable Packaging Team, in the Brand Change & Innovation team, based at International Supply Centre, Technical, Menstrie.

  • The purpose of this role is to identify, assess and trial new packaging technologies that drive towards our sustainable by design 2030 packaging targets .

  • This will involve support across Brand Change & Innovation Categories, Brand teams, Innovation and R&D.

Top Accountabilities:

  • Sustainable Packaging Pipeline – Scan the horizon and identify future technology R&D opportunities, ensuring there is a healthy pipeline of ideas.

  • Sustainable Packaging Projects – Manage sustainability R&D projects to agreed timescales and budgets ensuring great delivery and following relevant process.

  • Sustainable packaging consultancy and support – Provide relevant guidance and support to Innovation & Brand Change and Brand teams ensuring we capitalise on opportunities to make our packaging as sustainable as possible.

  • Improvement workstreams – Deliver improve projects to ensure the sustainable packaging team ways of working are codified and efficient and support delivery of strong sustainable packaging technology and solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifying, assessing and trialing new packaging technologies that help drive towards our 2030 packaging targets.

  • Supporting Brand Change & Innovation, categories, market innovation teams and Global Brand teams in finding opportunities to make our packaging more sustainable, whilst ensuring compliance with all regulatory and legal guidance.

  • Deliver short to medium term technical Sustainable Packaging Technology projects and report key performance indicators.

  • Work in conjunction with the Global Sustainability Team, Procurement Grain to Glass team and Innovation R&D on Improve workstreams to deliver more efficient ways of working, and governance to support strong delivery

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Degree or equivalent – preferably in a scientific or engineering discipline.

  • Experience in a technical role, preferably with some sustainability experience or knowledge.

  • Must have experience in either packaging design, packaging technology, packaging manufacture, or bottling lines.

  • Experience in risk analysis, problem solving and some understanding of sustainability technologies and solutions.

Experience

  • Sound commercial judgement to allow for balancing business opportunity against perceived risks and benefits.

  • Strong technical understanding of multiple packaging formats, manufacturing techniques and how they combine and run-on production lines.

  • Awareness of different cultural requirements - experienced in working across business boundaries and in challenging environments.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills – track record of delivering innovative and tailored technical solutions at pace.

  • Experienced in project management, working with multiple partners to deliver ambitious projects navigating through processes and breakthroughs.

  • Strong Innovative thinking and agile delivery of either improvements or solutions.

  • Knowledge of I&BC stage-gate process (and/or NPD processes in general) and tools such as Planview, SAP, Power BI would be beneficial.
