Responsibilities

The Information Technology team is looking for an Infrastructure Analyst I to help support the Network Communications team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists in the use and implementation of local area networking technology.

  • May provide assistance in the use and system support of MSTS’s Wide Area Network.

  • Assists other network system personnel when complex problems arise.

  • Provides support to the User Support Training organization.

  • Provides technical support to include installation, operation, maintenance, trouble shooting and repair of equipment and software supporting the network and servers.

  • Administer and support MSTS's servers and electronic messaging system.

  • Respond to Help Desk requests to support troubleshooting of workstation and server related problems.

  • May troubleshoot software, hardware and network problems and implement corrective actions.

  • May prepare detailed specifications and plans from which network systems will be implemented.

  • May provide work direction and training to technicians and network engineers.

  • Lead small network projects to design, install, implement, and document new systems or support.

  • Add modifications or uninstall an existing system.

  • May configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, wi-fi access points).

  • Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations.

  • Provide backup and second level coverage to Technical Support Representatives as assigned.

  • Learn and comply with validation requirements, standard-operating procedures (SOP), and change control maintenance for product life cycle.

  • Provide support to Data Center environments including disaster recovery and backup technologies.

  • Perform within change control and ticketing system environment.

  • Perform other duties assigned by Management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a computer related field or equivalent training and experience.

  • Awareness of technical principles, theories, standards, practices and procedures to include the OSI Model and networking protocols.

  • Exhibit strong end-to-end troubleshooting skills for system, network or application and identify modifications needed in existing applications to meet changing user requirements.

  • Preferred candidate with demonstrated experience in each: monitor system performance, resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning.

  • Participation in after-hours support pool. Requirements include evening and weekend availability.

  • Cisco CCNA or CCNP, Extreme Networks, and Palo Alto certifications preferred.

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Candidate must be a team player with good customer service skills and the ability to work flexible hours if required.

  • The primary work location will be based at the Nevada National Security Site at Mercury, NV with occasional work at North Las Vegas.

  • Work schedule for this position will be 4/10’s, Monday – Thursday (subject to change).

  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

    MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age.     Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). The hourly range for this position is:$27.50 - $41.25.

Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
