CiTi BOCES Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Mexico, New York
CiTi BOCES has a full-time opening for a Teacher of the Visually Impaired effective September 1, 2024.
Responsibilities:
Conduct assessments and evaluations to determine students’ visual impairments and their impact on learning.
Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments.
Provide direct instruction and support to students in areas such as braille literacy, orientation and mobility, and adaptive technology.
Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents, and other specialists to ensure students’ access to the curriculum.
Adapt materials and teaching strategies to meet the unique needs of visually impaired students.
Teach skills related to daily living, independent travel, and social interaction.
Attend IEP meetings and contribute expertise on visual impairment.
May work with students who have additional disabilities.
Itinerant responsibilities will travel to multiple locations.
Job Qualifications
New York State certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired.
Knowledge of braille and assistive technology.
Experience working with students with visual impairments preferred.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
