POSITION SUMMARY
Performs a variety of administrative and supervisory responsibilities in assuring efficient service of the City of
Miami Water Distribution/Sewer Collection Division.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
Directs the day-to-day operation of the water and wastewater crews; assigns work to the various crews;
monitors the progress of each work assignment daily; establishes priorities to deal with emergencies and
unanticipated needs.
Responsible for hiring, training, disciplining and evaluating employees to ensure that qualified talent is
hired and retained within the division.
Handles the day to day operations of the water distribution, and waste water collection functions under
the Water-Wastewater division.
Assists the Director of Public Utilities with planning and organizing the water division; assists with the
planning of future short term and long term needs; assists in the preparation of a budget for this Division.
Represents the water and wastewater division at various City meetings and addresses the public
complaints.
Compiles various reports regarding water and wastewater; provides information on such to the public,
outside agencies, and to City of Miami management.
Deals with Division personnel difficulties; handles difficulties that lead workers and their supervisors
cannot handle.
Provides technical assistance and consults with other departments on matters pertaining to water
standards and maintenance; supervise and oversee compliance with Federal, State, and local water quality
standards.
Assesses requests for sewer and water billing adjustments and determines any adjustments needed.
Serves as the Departments representative on various City or intergovernmental boards, committees, and
panels related to the Department as assigned by the Director of Public Utilities.
Attends meetings dealing with water and waste water matters such as DEQ, EPA, Oklahoma Water Resource
Board, water reclamation, and water conservancy.
Oversees the readings on all wells to ensure there are sufficient water resources to meet the need of the
City.
Schedules monthly water samples and quarterly draw downs to keep in compliance with DEQ.
Plans projects for replacing water and sewer lines.
Directs the proper draining and filling of city water towers to minimize potential issues.
Analyze water/sewer systems and identify problems to determine optimum solutions; make accurate
decisions in emergency situations where consequences of error could be costly.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Citys policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities
include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work assignments; appraising
performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing concerns and resolving problems.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: High School diploma or GED required; Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Civil Engineering,
or Business Management is preferred.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience in a public water or wastewater related field with at least
two (2) of those years being served in a supervisory capacity.
Computer Skills: Basic Microsoft Office Suite knowledge.
Certificates & Licenses: Must have C Water and Wastewater license
Must maintain a CDL Class B drivers license.
Other Requirements:
Considerable knowledge of water distribution and sewer collection systems;
Knowledge of construction requirements for water, sewer, and pumping stations; hazards and precautions
associated with trench work, and water and sewer line construction; State and Federal regulations
