Position SummaryResponsible for designing and implementing user interfaces for instrument control software, databases, and information management systems for genotyping and sequencing platforms. The role will work closely with assay scientists, quality assurance and customers to ensure successful processing of bovine and porcine DNA samples and related genetic evaluations.

  • Design and implement user interfacesfor control of laboratory automation instruments, including interaction with vendor instrument control software.

  • Design and implement software components to connect laboratory automation instruments with information management systems and databases.

  • Ensure automation and assay performance exceed defined metrics for new workflows and liquid handling hardware devices (robots and or integrated fluidics devices) and functions within ISO17025 standards.

  • Design and implement genotyping and sequencing pipelines

  • Maintain rigorous quality standards and improve methods throughout the whole process flow

  • Understand analysis pipeline and develop/maintain process maps

  • Manage and maintain systems to monitor metrics and key performance indicators

  • Ability to write and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as well as written and verbal instructions.


  • Demonstrated ability to integrate software programs to control automation or robotic hardware systems.

  • Experience in a high-level programming or scripting language such as R, Python, Java, Perl, Linux

  • Strong database skills

  • Excellent written, communication, and presentation skills, with excellent time and program management skills


  • Associates Degree in programming, B.S. in computer science, bioscience or related field

  • 3-5 years work experience in genomics or biotech fields preferred not required
