SUMMARY

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for plant maintenance and support of the equipment throughout the plant. Working in partnership with the Maintenance Manager, they keep the plant and its primary electrical and mechanical systems running. All procedures and practices used are grounded in standards, regulations and laws addressing food safety and food quality, as well as environmental safety in accordance with Safe Quality Food (SQF) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Works in partnership with the Maintenance Manager to perform basic maintenance and repairs on conveyors, packaging equipment, production equipment, electrical controls systems and other related plant systems

  • Provides routine inspections and monitoring of all production equipment

  • Performs troubleshooting on equipment and facilities as needed to determine the root cause of problem and perform proper repair

  • Completes all work safely and follows all company policies and procedures regarding safety completion of work

  • Completes building and facility maintenance as needed

  • Supports and follows standards for food safety and food quality production reflected in SQF as well as the regulations of major vendors and governmental agencies such as OSHA, FDA and EPA

  • Records and documents according to procedures, assuring that all equipment documentation is up to date and accurate

  • Performs data entry into Computer Maintenance Management System

  • Prepares unscheduled work orders to support production requirements

  • Works in SAP to maintain daily work lists

  • Remains current in training expectations

  • Keeps work environment clean and safe

  • Primary focus of all business-related efforts are and must remain that of promoting excellence in all products

  • Records and documents according to procedures

  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Requires education generally equivalent to a high school diploma

  • Requires a minimum of two years of plant maintenance work experience including product packaging

  • Requires basic knowledge of electrical controls, mechanical equipment, conveyors and production or facilities related equipment and the ability to troubleshoot and make repairs

  • Requires the development of a clear understanding of food safety and food quality standards and regulations such as SQF and environmental safety regulations along with a commitment to continuous improvement

  • Requires the ability to communicate in English fluently for the effective and clear written and oral communication with others

  • Requires teamwork ability

  • Requires basic mathematical skills to be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide

  • Requires basic computer skills and data entry skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as: Word, Excel and Outlook

Work Environment:

The employee works indoors in a production environment. Additionally, the incumbent will work near moving mechanical parts, and in high places. He/she will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. There is moderate noise in the work environment.
