Benefit Summary for Prospective Employees Work Location: Bell Museum, UMN St Paul Campus Application Deadline: June 19, 2024 The Bell Museum is one of the University of Minnesota's public facing units and is poised for continued growth following the Bell's recent 150th anniversary year. The Membership Manager position is incredibly dynamic - offering the opportunity to create a high-level member experience, while building strategic growth in the Bell's member program and leveraging the horsepower of the University of Minnesota Foundation. This position supervises one part time membership experience assistant and works with the Bell's frontline fundraising staff (director of development and associate development officer and annual giving manager) to support the donor pipeline, as well as Visitor Services staff to ensure a positive member experience. The Membership Manager will create and execute unique member benefits and experiences while making data-driven decisions aimed at growth. The Bell Museum development department embraces new ideas and perspectives as we raise philanthropic support for the Bell Museums key priority areas including: Research & Collections, Museum without Boundaries, Curiosity Catalyst, Minnesota's Astronomy Classroom and Creative by Nature. This role also plays a critical role in the Bell Museum's diversity, equity and inclusion efforts as we aim to remove barriers of entry to the museum. Job Duties and Responsibilities Membership and Program and Management - 40% Implement strategies for a comprehensive membership program that includes membership levels that range from $15 donations to $1,000 supporting levels. Achieve membership goals based on data driven decision making Collaborate with marketing staff to create written membership materials that capture the Bell experience Work with UMN Tickets on membership database (Audience View) Collaborate with Bell Museum Marketing and Visitor Services departments to create a strong membership presence onsite and support onsite membership enrollment. Collaborate with the marketing team on renewal and new membership solicitations through direct mail, email, social media and texting Develop and collaborate on Bell Gift Membership program (partners include the staff who manage the individuals selling the gift memberships, , marketing, UM Tickets, and the University of Minnesota Foundation) Membership Operations- 40% Maintain database maintenance in AudienceView that includes annual membership renewal preparation and member welcome mailings. Ensure membership data in databases is clean and accurate Work with printing and digital membership vendors on Bell member materials and communications Ensure Bell Members are included in the University of Minnesota Foundation's Donor Management System through the request/creation of membership numbers and records in DMS, Ensure monthly membership payment reminders are processed Provide customer service as needed if elevated beyond the visitor services/ ticketing desk staff Respond to and develop efficient methods to respond to membership inquiries, address members questions and problems Serve as the primary contact for members with a focus on enhancing the member experience and customer service. Work with the B ll's frontline fundraising staff and UMN Foundation partners to utilize membership data to support The Bell's fundraising goals Develop and maintain regular reporting systems. With support from marketing and business development staff to implement member acquisition and retention strategies Effectively and efficiently leverage data on membership to drive decision making and strategy. Member stewardship and appreciation events - 10% Writes acknowledgement letters and provides other stewardship in response to gifts. Build and maintain relationships with members, donors, and community partners. Develop member engagement plan that maximizes Bell events and unique opportunities and partnerships (onsite, virtual) Partner with members of the Development Team on donor engagement, stewardship and recognition Identify members with potential to become mid-level to major gift donors coordinating with the Bell's front-line fundraising team Supervise and Train Staff - 10% Hires, supervises, directs, trains, and evaluates membership assistant staff (Currently .25 FTE) Develop and deliver membership training to improve awareness of benefits, sales skills, and data-entry processes for frontline staff on the Visitor Services team. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelors' degree plus at least two years of progressive experience in advancement, membership or related area, or a combination of related education and work experience equal to at least six years. Experience with events management or project management. Requires occasional attendance at some weekend and evening events. Proficient in Google Workspaces, Microsoft Office or similar computer software. (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point) Thoughtful collaborator and project manager Desired Qualifications: Experience working for a mission-centered nonprofit organization. Strong experience with data management and analysis. Master storyteller - excellent written and oral communication skills. Thrives in a collaborative environment.
