Furthermore, it will involve overnight travel with lab members to research sites within Minnesota and the Northern Plains region. Greenhouse/growth chamber/high-tunnel/field research (65%) - Assisting in planting, data collection, pollination, care, and harvest of potatoes in the greenhouse and field - Assist graduate students with data collection for thesis research - Facilitate research logistics - Assist in spring planting preparation including cutting and packaging seed, and verification - Assist in potato grading, frying, and photographing - Collect, extract, and inventory true seed from diploid, tetraploid, and wild Solanum material - Make hybridizations with diploid, tetraploid, and wild Solanum material - Scout greenhouses and growth chambers frequently for abiotic and biotic stresses - Greenhouse general management including cleaning, watering, stress scouting, spray scheduling - Weekend and occasional holiday greenhouse watering Resource procurement distribution (15%) - Order supplies - Maintain inventory of supplies within database program - Manage minivan maintenance - Reserve housing at seed location - Drive vehicle to and from field locations for transport of seed tubers Tissue culture and Lab Work (20%) - Data collation, organization and entry to lab database - Assist tissue culture specialist with the introduction of plants to tissue culture and their maintainance in tissue culture - Supervise undergraduate students - Lab maintenance Benefits Working at the University At the University of Minnesota, you'll find a flexible work environment and supportive colleagues who are interested in lifelong learning.
