The Associate Director, Protective Services, Executive and Event Security, is a key member of UnitedHealth Group's (UHG) Corporate Security team. The Corporate Security organization is responsible for the Enterprise Workplace Security Program which supports the protection of the company’s global workforce, assets and operations. The Associate Director, Protective Services will report to the Director, Executive and Event Security within Corporate Security.

The Associate Director, Protective Services, Executive and Event Security, will assist in managing the Executive and Event Security programs and will be responsible for maturing and operationalizing UHG’s executive protection and event security programs in line with key risks and industry best practices, under the direction of the Director, Executive and Event Security. Core responsibilities include but are not limited to: supporting the development of a global strategy for event security; facilitating the execution of the global strategies for executive and event security; developing and operationalizing security plans for high-profile events, executive trips and other executive activities; managing third-party executive protection resources during business activities; coordinating with executive and event planning staff; conducting security risk assessments; delivering training and awareness; managing localized incidents; and promoting the delivery of best-in-class services for company executives and corporate events enterprise-wide.

Qualified candidates must have demonstrated operational experience in the executive protection and event security field (private sector and/or public sector; some private sector experience strongly preferred). Travel security experience is strongly preferred. Candidates must be able to maintain solid internal partnerships, demonstrate exceptional communications skills and be able to work in high-pressure situations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the operationalization of the executive and event security programs globally under the oversight of the Director, Executive and Event Security

  • Support the development and execution of a global strategy for event security for both corporate and executive-attended events

  • Develop and maintain executive protection and event security policies, standards, and SOPs

  • Develop and maintain contingency and emergency response plans related to executive protection and event security

  • Serve as a point-of-contact for executives, executive staff and associated functions with regards to executive and event security

  • Manage and drive security planning and implementation for key corporate events as well as special and/or high-risk events involving executives

  • Manage and execute security planning and implementation for high-risk executive business trips

  • Conduct advances and provide onsite coordination for executive and event security as required

  • Coordinate closely with the UHG intelligence team to conduct risk assessments for all covered events and executive trips

  • Conduct office, residential, venue, hotel and other site security reviews related to executive protection and event security

  • Manage localized security incidents and emergencies impacting executives and company personnel during corporate events and executive activities; support security crisis management as it relates to executives and corporate events as needed

  • Ensure service level goals for executive protection and event security vendors are reached for specific activities

  • Coordinate with Corporate Security and cross-functional partners with regards to office security, travel security, event security, transportation, protective intelligence, executive risk assessments and threat investigations

  • Work closely with regional security teams to drive standardization of executive and event security services globally

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with company stakeholders, peer organizations, and relevant government and law enforcement agencies

  • Maintain a solid understanding of executive protection, event security and travel security best practices and benchmarking trends

  • This role requires after-hours on call availability

  • This role may require up to 50% travel

Required Qualifications:

  • Formal training and/or certification in executive protection

  • 5+ years of private sector and/or public sector security experience to include corporate security, intelligence, law enforcement and/or military

  • Direct operational experience in the executive security/protective services, event security and travel security fields

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and some weekends as needed

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, sometimes with short notice

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Security driving training or certification

  • Private sector experience in a corporate security discipline

  • Emergency medical experience (EMT, paramedic)

  • Knowledge of investigations and protective intelligence best practices

  • Proficiency in MS Office products (e.g., PowerPoint)

  • Proven ability to apply sound judgement and use discretion when dealing with sensitive and confidential information

  • Proven ability to work effectively during emergency and crisis situations

  • Proven solid verbal and written communication and presentation skills

  • Proven ability to work independently (self-starter) and in team environments

  • Proven ability to engage and maintain solid relationships at all levels of an organization

  • Demonstrated high level of emotional intelligence, situational awareness and flexibility

  • Reside in the Washington D.C., or Minneapolis, MN area

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
