GRAND COUNTY Planning and Zoning Director in MOAB, Utah

About the Position:

This position performs a variety of complex, managerial, professional, and administrative duties, including overseeing planning, zoning, and land use code enforcement for Grand County. This position provides general supervision of the Grand County Planning and Zoning staff, manages all aspects of Planning and Zoning activities, develops and implements policies and procedures, and oversees department budget. Additionally, the Planning and Zoning Director is responsible for preparing, maintaining, updating, and implementing Grand County's General Plan, coordinating with other agencies in processing development applications, and drafting requests for proposals for community and economic development projects. Additional tasks related to overseeing and managing the operations of the Grand County Planning Department are required. Please read the complete job description before applying.

 

The Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate for this role will have considerable knowledge of principles, practices, and functions of planning, zoning, and development related to local government operations; state and local land use laws, ordinances and their relationship with uniform building codes, code enforcement practices, strategic planning, site planning, and subdivision review. This person should have a working knowledge of land use law and applicable court/legal decisions, civil engineering principles, property descriptions, map reading, water rights, project management, and budgeting and environmental constraints to development. As this position oversees a small department, collaborates with local agencies, and provides a service to the public, communication, both written and verbal, and effective conflict resolution and problem-solving skills are highly important to maintain successful relationships within the organization and the community.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduation from college with a bachelor's degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Public Administration, Public Policy, Community Development, Geography, or a closely related field.
  • Eight (8) years of responsible experience performing related duties, with three (3) years in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A Valid Driver's License
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening and background check.

     

Pay & Benefits:

Pay Range: $93,785-$141,858 (Dependent on qualifications and experience. Steps Issued in accordance with GC Res #3307)  This position is full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday thru Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, schedule may vary, some nights are required to attend County Commission and Planning Commission meetings.
