ATI is currently seeking a Laboratory Tech (6) for Mechanical Tech in our Monroe, NC facility. This position is an essential position that plays a vital role in delivering heat-treated materials to clients. These materials are used in applications that demand both high strength and a moderate level of corrosion resistance. Additionally, this position involves conducting destructive testing on samples to analyze the point at which the material fails. By doing so, it ensures the production of superior products for our clients.

A successful lab technician must be self-motivated, able to work as a team, understand and follow work instructions, multi-task, and show attention to detail.

This is a night shift position from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am on a 2-2-3 schedule. The training schedule for this role is subject to change and may include both day and night sessions.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Heat Treat Samples

  • Rapid Strain Rate Tensiles

  • Shear, Bend, and flattening tests

  • Stress Rupture; Hardness; Charpy Impact Tests

  • Assist in routine laboratory operations and or perform other routine laboratory work as directed. Perform routine mechanical servicing and minor repairs of testing equipment. Maintain work areas in clean, safe, and orderly condition.

  • Perform a variety of duties to generate high-quality testing data for certification. These duties may include but are not limited to sample preparation, following written procedures, testing, validating, and reporting test results, and recording data into the laboratory information management system (LIMS)

METALLOGRAPHY PREPARATION (INCLUDING MOUNTING, POLISHING, AND ETCHING SAMPLES); USE LABORATORY MICROSCOPE TO EVALUATE GRAIN STRUCTURE AS TO SIZE, UNIFORMITY, INCLUSIONS AND OTHER SPECIFIED FACTORS; HARDNESS; MICRO AND MACRO PHOTOGRAPHS; AUTOMATED IMAGE ANALYSIS.

SAMPLE SAWING & MACHINING

OPERATE ABRASIVE SAWS TO CUT A VARIETY OF TEST SAMPLES ACCORDING TO DRAWINGS AND STANDARD PLANS; SET-UP AND OPERATE LATHE, CYLINDRICAL AND SURFACE GRINDERS, MILLING MACHINE, BROADER, DRILL PRESS AND OTHER MACHINE TOOLS

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Skills:

  • Basic math skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure including whole numbers, fractions, and decimals

  • Basic computer skills

  • Ability to read measuring tapes

  • Ability to read and follow written procedures
