ABOUT THE ROLE

As an Advanced R&D Ceramic Processing Scientist here at Honeywell, you will be responsible for developing and advancing ceramic processing technologies that are critical to our aerospace products. You will work at the forefront of research and development to drive innovation, improve performance, and contribute to the success of our cutting-edge projects. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on our ceramic processing initiatives and drive our competitive advantage.

You will report directly to our Sr. R&D Manager and you’ll work out of our Morris Plains, NJ location

In this role, you will impact the development of advanced ceramic processing techniques, ensuring high-quality and reliable manufacturing processes. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, product development, and manufacturing, to ensure seamless integration of ceramic materials into our aerospace products. You will be responsible for maturing breakthrough technologies to TRL6 that are aligned to the Space, Mechanical Systems & Components, and/or Engines & Power Systems strategic plan and roadmap. Through your skills and contributions, technologies will be de-risked prior to New Product Development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrated technical breadth and depth in materials science, chemistry, and mechanics to solve challenging technical problems that impact the direction of programs

  • Demonstrated holistic, critical thinking that yields breakthrough innovation

  • Apply technical expertise on a variety of projects and programs, and support knowledge transfer and troubleshooting for development teams

  • Support customer technical queries & meetings

  • Prepare and deliver impactful internal and external Leadership presentations

  • Support cross-functional technical teams of 2-10 experts in various domains and geographical locations to deliver differentiated technology solutions for high temperature processes supporting gas turbine engine components, coatings, etc. from ideation through TRL6

  • Develop requirements for, and test methods to validate, technologies/prototypes/products

  • Support the Program Manager in the effective execution of a yearly budget; ensure project deliverables are met.

  • Effectively manage intellectual property through the timely submittal of patent disclosures. Interface with patent portfolio managers, Chief Engineers, Fellows, and patent attorneys.

  • Support customer relationships & external funding opportunities in partnership with the Technical Sales Manager and Business Development Leader/Fellow

  • Support proposals

  • Comfortable and eager to work in the materials lab to advance technologies and processes

  • This role will involve frequent standing and the ability to lift up to 35lbs.

    U.S. PERSON REQUIREMENTS

Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status or have the ability to obtain an export authorization

MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics

  • 5+ years of hands-on research experience

WE VALUE

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Materials Science or related field

  • Proficiency in ceramic processing techniques and materials analysis (ceramics, composites, and/or metals as well as high level of competency with high-temperature processing operations)

  • Strong fundamental knowledge in physics, chemistry, thermodynamics, kinetics

  • Experience with high temperature furnaces

  • Experience with ceramic matrix composites, coatings, and slurry formulations is a huge plus

  • Experience with building and/or customizing lab instrumentation/ equipment :

  • Ability to confidently and effectively communicate ideas with audiences at varying levels of technical depth

  • Skills for diagnosing and facilitating repair of lab equipment as needed

  • Ability to work effectively in a matrixed, cross-functional team environment

  • Ability to analyze and solve complex and challenging problems.

  • Experience working in global teams across time zones

  • Experience with new product or technology development in a highly regulated environment such as aerospace or similar field
