Atlantic Health System Supervisor, Food Services in Morristown, New Jersey

Plans, directs and coordinates the diet office activities of the Food and Nutrition Department. Monitors and controls costs, quality and other performance outcomes of the diet office. Contributes to the development of department policies and procedures to provide administrative direction for diet office efficiencies, budgeting, purchasing, staffing and quality outcomes.

Principal Accountabilities:

Analyzes and organizes diet office operations and procedures such as record keeping, preparation of payroll, flow of correspondence and patient care needs. Makes changes and recommendations for process and performance improvement. Ensures the diet office and services are relevant and innovative.

Supervises day to day diet office activities as well as schedule preparations, performance evaluations, progressive disciplines, recruitment and onboarding.

Evaluates office production and revises procedures and devises new processes to improve efficiency and workflows.

Formulates procedures for systemic retention, protection, retrieval, transfer and disposal for data, files and records.

Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, conferences, and professional affiliation. Maintains all appropriate competencies.

Maintains effective communication and follow up with all managerial and supervisory team members of the department and Morristown Medical Center at large.

Works with the interns to assist in their educational experience. Contributes to their performance assessment. Monitors their distribution of work and facilitates their interaction with the team.

Instructs patients and their families in nutritional principles, dietary plans, food selection and preparation.

Ensures meal selections are in accordance with the dietary profile and ensures all data in the profile is translated to the menu. Evaluates appropriateness of diet prescription utilizing subjective and objective patient data. Able to identify and assist in any age-related needs with respect to menu selection process including the geriatric, pediatric, and neurologically compromised patient.

ensures meal selections obtained for each meal period, assisting patients with selections as needed. Maintains friendly, efficient Spirit of Service attitude towards customers, co-workers and clients. Communicates with patients daily and obtains food preferences and allergies.

Continually checks necessary reports and systems to insure timely meal order entry. Works effectively and timely to reduce non-select menus.

Ensures that phone calls from patients and allied health team members are fielded appropriately. Resolves issues, submits late/early trays, and works collaboratively with tray assembly in the provision for the patient’s needs.

Ensures the patient information is obtained and is entered into the VST diet office system. Maintains accurate records to meet regulatory agency guidelines and assists in statistical analysis of data. Orients patients to food service policies and procedures. Performs daily patient rounding to ascertain diet adherence, meal tolerance and patient satisfaction.

Works with, and at the direction of, the Clinical Nutrition Manager to complete other tasks deemed necessary for the proper functioning of the department.

Responsible for all other tasks as assigned

Report all safety incidents (injuries and illnesses) into the company’s risk management system (Origami Risk) on the same day that the safety incident occurred.

Required:

Undergraduate Degree in nutrition or related field.

Four years’ experience in a diet office or nutritional services setting preferred.

ServSafe Managers certification or equivalent.

Preferred:

  1. Supervisory experience in Healthcare food service or related dining is preferred.
