Google Software Engineer, Application Processor Power Management Firmware in Mountain View, California

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • 5 years of experience with software development in C, C++, and Python with data structures/algorithms.

  • 3 years of experience in software development for embedded systems.

  • 3 years of experience testing and launching software products on embedded devices.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in C/C++ development for firmware applications.

  • Experience in Linux kernel driver development.

  • Experience in power aware engineering practices.

  • Familiarity with embedded operating systems (e.g., LK, FreeRTOS, etc.).

  • Great debugging skills with GDB and commercial JTAG debug solutions.

  • Background in distributed systems, message passing primitives, real-time behavior.

You will be part of an R&D team developing high performance and low power hardware and software to enable Google’s continuous innovations in mobile image, vision, and AI processing. In this role, you will focus on application processor power management, a highly visible responsibility in the SoC ecosystem. This project offers impactful opportunities across the development lifecycle - influencing the architecture of future products, working on early prototype hardware and software simulations, up to supporting customers in productizing end-user devices.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $161,000-$239,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Develop firmware for deeply embedded microcontrollers in complex SoC projects.

  • Review hardware designs, prototype software-based hardware-mocks, and engage in hardware/software co-design efforts to engineer effective platform power management.

  • Engage cross-functionally with Google teams to build APIs.

  • Write and extend Linux and embedded OS drivers to interface with power management and metric modules.

  • Work with early hardware prototypes, FPGAs, software-simulation of SoC, and subsystem designs to verify and enable functionality.
