Microsoft Research & Incubations conducts world-class research and is developing the next generation of technology that will change the lives of billions of people, enabling every person and organization on the planet to achieve more. The Special Projects team within Microsoft Research & Incubations is searching for a full-stack software engineer who is eager to tackle unique challenges around knowledge extraction, representation, and LLMs. In this role, you’ll work at the intersection of machine learning and engineering to bring our research to bear on unique problem domains and impactful partnerships.

We are looking for a versatile software engineer with a passion for unlocking the hidden potential in data. In this role you will work closely with researchers, data scientists, and other engineers to build full-stack systems that showcase problem solutions. Areas of development could include:

• Pipeline and service development in Python

• Frontend development using frameworks such as Streamlit or Shiny, alongside JavaScript/TypeScript web applications written in React

• Data visualization with Vega and D3

• Resource deployment on Azure

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement software applications and components that incorporate and showcase our research

• Collaborate to develop and test out new ideas within the research group and with product or other partners

• Contribute to the team’s codebases (internal and open-source) with quality, well-thought out code

• Prepare technical papers and presentations

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

• OR equivalent experience.

• Experience with one or more of: Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, C#, Java, Rust

• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS

• Experience with full-stack development

• Fluent in written and spoken English

Preferred Qualifications

• · Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

• o OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

• OR equivalent experience.

• Adaptable, motivated, and highly collaborative team player

• Self-starting and productive in a fully remote, globally distributed team

• Experience in a research environment

• Experience with high-scale data processing platforms such as Spark

• Effective communication skills
