Consumers Energy Senior Gas Distribution Engineer Tech Analyst in MULTIPLE LOCATIONS, Michigan

Location:

This position is hybrid (virtual/onsite) with a requirement to be onsite Monday, Tuesday and Thursday with the opportunity to work virtually Wednesday and Friday per business needs. The candidate may be assigned to Groveland Service Center located in Howell, MI or Flint Service Center location in Flint, MI (other Consumers Energy Service Centers nearby these locations may be considered as well). Candidate must be within commutable distance from the location or willing to relocate (relocation package available for those who qualify).

We are looking for: Senior Gas Distribution Engineer Technical Analyst

The Senior Gas Distribution Engineer Technical Analyst is responsible for the development and enhancement of standards and materials, including emerging technologies while continuing to meet all applicable regulatory rules and codes and solving problems for different work groups within compliance of all applicable rules. The position requires communication of these standards and direction to both engineers and operations in a concise manner that allows precise application of the standards and technology. The Senior Engineering Technical Analyst will lead moderately complex projects and ensure they are completed according to plan and budget.

We encourage you to apply if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field with four (4) or more years of applicable experience

  • [OR] Associate degree in a technical field with eight (8) or more years of applicable experience

  • [OR] High School Diploma with twelve (12) or more years of applicable experience

  • Knowledge of federal and state gas code is preferred

  • Strong working knowledge of the gas distribution system and the stakeholders and processes involved to scope, identify and design the most sensitive and strategic gas distribution projects is preferred

  • Strong technical design skills involving design and construction on the gas distribution system is preferred

In this role, you will :

  • Work closely with the Distribution System Engineers, Distribution Pipeline Engineering, Distribution Grid Analyst and Technical Advisor teams Supporting the construction and maintenance activities that keep the gas distribution system safe and reliable.

  • Establish strong working relationships with field personnel and other internal stakeholders Project development, scoping and the alignment of the Material Condition - Non-Modeled (CINC) projects

  • Supporting other emergent field work, including designed replacements due to leaks, corrosion, records deficiencies, and field follow-ups / further action items.

  • Process improvements and projects related to improving efficiency in design, construction and/or compliance. Examples of this may include, but not be limited to:

  • Projects to document new processes to ensure compliance with gas safety standards.

  • Projects where coordination with the end-use gas customer will be required, such as company-initiated replacements or relocates.

  • Projects requiring field investigation before a decision can be made as to how to moveforward, or other projects as assigned by Leadership to meet business needs.

  • Project development and scoping of Material Condition Non-Modeled replacement projects

  • Approve highly complex construction prints, work instructions, and procedures

  • Address complex concerns, investigate suggestions, and provide support, direction, and recommendations to the multi work groups effected

  • Develop and maintain documentation processes associated with integrated systems including hardware, applications, protocols, detailed point lists and revision control

  • Perform advanced research and development that leads to issuing updates to Consumers Energy's engineering and construction standards, manuals, design tools and documents that are used across the business to ensure compliance with laws and regulations

  • Respond to incident investigations, responsible for causal analysis/incident reports

  • Providing timely correspondence to external regulatory agencies

  • Assist in the scope document process, project cost-estimates, project meetings, and closeout estimates

  • Lead and/or assist with engineering projects to include design, inspections, system planning, specifications, reports, maps, environmental impacts, permits, contracts, schedules, estimates, surveying, easements, data collection, construction observation, and field investigation

  • Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary
