Job Description

This is a full-time or part-time faculty position responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the chair.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Prepares and delivers classes to undergraduate and/or graduate students.

  2. Compiles, administers, and grades examinations.

  3. Provides services to the university and the profession.

  4. May conduct supplemental instructional activities such as independent studies, internships, and advising.

    Non-Essential Job Functions

  5. May supervise the work of student and/or graduate assistants.

  6. May serve on departmental, college, and university committees.

  7. Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  1. Extensive knowledge in the field in which the individual will be teaching.

  2. Ability to effectively teach undergraduate and/or graduate students.

  3. Ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment.

  4. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  5. Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.

    Physical Demands

Physical ability to perform the essential job duties, including ability to stand for more than an hour at a time; sit for more than an hour at a time; use hands to finger/handle/feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, crawl, climb, balance, talk; and hear regularly.

Required Education

Master’s degree in the field in which the individual will be teaching is required. Some fields may allow applicable practical experience to substitute for Master’s degree.

Required Experience and Training

Practical experience sufficient to teach at a university level, through teaching or profession, is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Terminal degree is preferred. Experience teaching at a university level is preferred.

Special Conditions for Eligibility

This is a security-sensitive position subject to criminal record check.

This is an IT-sensitive position subject to the Computer and Network Security policy.

Other Specifications

This is a full-time, nine-month, faculty position responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate aviation courses.

Master’s degree in aviation sciences or a related field is required. Evidence of extensive experience in the aviation industry is required. Applicants must have the ability to teach aviation courses in any of the following areas: Accident Investigations; Airport Management; Aerodynamics; Human Factors; Airline Management; Physiology; and Safety. This position may sponsor one of the student organizations such as Alpha Eta Rho, National Intercollegiate Flying Association ( NIFA ), etc. Ability to utilize current and future technology to enhance classroom instruction is required.

Possession of FAA Advanced Ground Instructor ( AGI ) certification is preferred. Familiarization with simulators is preferred. Experience in a Part 141 program is preferred.

Benefit and Retirement Eligibility

This position is eligible for participation in the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ), subject to the position being full-time and at least 4 ½ months in length, or the Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
