Position Information

Job Title Student Assistant (Work Study) Computer Laboratory Worker

General Description

This is a work-study student position responsible for assisting in the operations and activities of a computer laboratory and promoting a positive learning environment for students. Works under general supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.

Job Duties

  1. Assists in maintain/enforcing safety in a computing laboratory.

  2. Provides technical instruction on basic computing laboratory equipment.

  3. Answers general questions related to the computing laboratory.

  4. Assists in properly ending/cleaning the computing laboratory.

  5. Meets with faculty member(s) in charge of the computing laboratory as necessary.

  6. Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  7. Knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures.

  8. Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.

  9. Ability to understand and follow instructions.

    Required Qualifications

The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.

No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.

A student must be awarded and accept a “Work-Study Permit” for each semester the student will be working.

Preferred Qualifications

In order to qualify as a computer laboratory worker, applicant must have taken, and passed with a grade of an A or B, computer science course(s) at SFASU .

Physical Demands

Special Conditions for Eligibility

A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.

Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
