United States Fleet Forces Command WELDER LEADER in Naval Business Center, Pennsylvania

Summary You will serve as a WELDER LEADER in the Machine Shop Branch (Code 1440.2) Production Division (Code 1440) in the Naval Foundry and Propeller Center (NFPC) (Code 1400) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania a detachment of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will provide technical direction to welders, shipfitters and helpers in the manufacture and repair of propeller and propulsor components utilized on naval vessels. You will perform electric arc welding utilizing various processes, such as mig, tig and shielded electrode, in the repair and manufacture of propeller and propulsor components. You will utilize gauges tools and equipment used in the welder trade, such as regulators, flowmeters, rectifiers, pneumatic grinders, hand tools, etc. You will inform supervision of work progress and status including actual or potential work problems and possible work delays. You will work with mechanics in setting the pace of production. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Experience passing on instructions from supervisor to other welders to set up, stage and start jobs. Experience using dew point analyzers, purging dams, oxygen analyzers, manometers and various contour and weldment size gages. Experience making decisions on problems encountered in routine operations. Experience using approved methods and procedures to meet welding specification requirements. Experience answering questions on welder procedures, policies, instructions, or other directives and checking in work in progress. Experience operating complicated mechanical, electrical and pneumatic equipment and instruments. Experience interpreting work instructions and job orders, setting the pace and demonstrating proper work methods. Experience maintaining a higher degree of alertness, concentration, visual and physical coordination than is normally required in other types of welding.
