Naval Facilities Engineering Command ELECTRICIAN in Naval Station Complex, California

Summary You will serve as a ELECTRICIAN in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST. Responsibilities You will independently plan and lay out routing, placement, and arrangement of industrial or similarly complex systems and circuit controls. You will determine installations and repairs including types, sizes, gauges, and lay out of conduit. You will be responsible for safe and proper operation of systems and equipment. You will plan and lay out the work, tracing hard-to-locate defects, problems, and completes repairs and installations with little to no advice. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Repairing and maintaining electrical components, fixtures, and wiring in buildings, facilities, and structures in compliance with National Electrical Code, local codes, building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings; 2) Working from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering, drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls; 3) Utilizing hand and power tools, such as cable pullers, hydraulic benders, and pipe threading machines; and a wide variety of test equipment; and 4) Installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical equipment. May be required to make repairs and installations in bad weather. May work in areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 feet or more; and in close quarters such as manholes, attics, or aboard ships. May occasionally be exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and rotary devices such electrical motors. May be exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises. Physical Effort: Works from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places requiring long periods of standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries tools, equipment, and parts that weigh 20-40 lbs and, occasionally, may lift or move heavier equipment with assistance. PPP applicants will be placed at the FPL, if determined Well Qualified (WQ). To receive priority consideration, the FPL must be the same grade level or equivalent of the retained grade or the grade held immediately prior to separation. ICTAP Applicants: To be considered well-qualified and exercise selection priority as an ICTAP candidate, displaced Federal employees must satisfy all qualification requirements for the position and receive a rating in the highly qualified category (score 85) or higher.
