Job Title: Director of Advanced Cell Sorting Technology Laboratory

Location: Navasota, Texas (On-site)

Reports to: R&D Director

Cytonome/ST, a technology company that develops, manufactures, and deploys single-cell analytical and sorting systems for agriculture production and human therapeutic applications, is seeking a Director level candidate to lead its newly established Advanced Technology Laboratory (ATL) located at the global headquarters of STgen, near College Station, TX. This laboratory is dedicated to the research and development of new cell-sorting devices. STgen is the world’s largest user of flow cytometry and single-cell sorting. Its production facilities deliver live artificial insemination products to agriculture, zoologic, and veterinary customers around the globe.

Role Responsibilities

The ATL Director will lead a cross-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technical specialists in the development and testing of new analytical and single-cell sorting devices for application across multiple STgen business units. The ATL will research, develop, and test new technologies, devices, systems, and software for potential use in these production facilities.

The ATL Director will serve as both the technical and operational leader for ATL projects and personnel, directly supervising project teams staffed by scientists, engineers, and technicians. ATL projects involve the elegant integration of microfluidics, laser-induced fluorescence measurement, image analyses, machine learning, and artificial intelligence technologies. This role will report to the Cytonome/ST R&D Director located at the Cytonome/ST headquarters near Lexington, MA. The role will also collaborate on scientific and technical issues with the company’s Principal Cytometrist and Engineering Fellow.

Job Responsibilities

· Work with corporate leadership and stakeholders in production, research and development, sales, marketing, and product engineering to maintain strategic plans and to develop specific research project requirements.

· Create research project plans and organize resources (budget, facilities, equipment, employees, consultants, contract resources, and vendors) required to execute the project plans. Establish leadership for each project.

· Hire, train, manage, and mentor ATL employees.

· Provide technical leadership to project teams and oversee project execution.

· Provide regular reports to executive management regarding progress and risk assessment.

· Stay current in the relevant technical fields by reviewing publications, attending scientific meetings, and participating in other professional development activities.

· Develop and implement technology strategies and initiatives to support the organization's goals and objectives.

· Oversee the planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of all technology systems and infrastructure.

· Manage a team of IT professionals, providing leadership, guidance, and support.

· Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify technology needs and requirements.

· Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in technology to ensure the organization remains competitive.

· Develop and maintain IT policies, procedures, and standards.

· Ensure compliance with NIST standards and other relevant regulations.

· Conduct regular assessments of technology systems to identify areas for improvement.

· Lead software development projects, working closely with developers to deliver high-quality solutions.

· Implement business continuity planning to minimize disruptions in technology services.

Required Skills and Experience

· Ability to work independently, set personal goals, set objectives for the ATL, and to meet planned objectives through effective management of the ATL team and resources.

· Ability to plan and independently conduct research experiments in the ATL.

· Possesses excellent computer skills, with experience using the Microsoft Office Suite and Teams for presentations and meetings.

· Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to lead a multi-disciplinary technical team.

· Exhibits excellent oral and written communication skills.

· Ability to understand, troubleshoot, and overcome technical obstacles.

Education and Work Experience

Candidates must meet or exceed one of the following combinations of education and work experience to be considered for this role:

· PhD in engineering, bioengineering, or physics with a minimum of 2 years of experience in the development of cell measurement, cell product measurement, or cell sorting systems that incorporate microfluidics, laser-induced fluorescence measurement, image analyses, machine learning, or artificial intelligence technologies.

· Master of Science in engineering, bioengineering, or physics with a minimum of 4 years of experience in the development of cell measurement, cell product measurement, or cell sorting systems that incorporate microfluidics, laser-induced fluorescence measurement, image analyses, machine learning, or artificial intelligence technologies.

· Bachelor of Science in engineering or physics with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the development of cell measurement, cell product measurement, or cell sorting systems that incorporate microfluidics, laser-induced fluorescence measurement, image analyses, machine learning, or artificial intelligence technologies.

A relevant graduate thesis may substitute for up to 2 years of the required experience.
