Position Summary/Description:

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Director of MBA Career Coaching leads and manages the career management function and coaching services for nearly 1,500 MBA students enrolled in one of five MBA Program formats (Full-Time, Evening, Weekend, Charlotte, and MBA@UNC online). The Director develops the business unit’s strategy, operational plan, performance metrics, and annual team goals. The Director is also directly responsible for the creation and team delivery of career programming across all program formats of the MBA portfolio, with a specific priority and emphasis on achieving competitive employment outcomes for Full-Time MBA students. Cultivating and nurturing a team culture that is student-centric, accessible, adaptable, and highly proactive in seeking these competitive employment outcomes for enrolled students is critical for both success in this role and our ongoing reputation as a highly-ranked MBA program.

The Director is responsible for hiring and managing a team of 8-10 Career coaches and leads the team in continually adapting to changing student and employer expectations while keeping pace with changes in job markets for MBA talent across multiple industries and functions. The MBA Career Coaching team guides and supports students in pursuing and securing impactful post- MBA careers and works directly with students and elected student leaders to provide a broad range of career resources, events, services, and job search support.

The Director of MBA Career Coaching works in close partnership with the Director of Employer Engagement to facilitate the sharing of employer and recruiting-related information. The Director effectively utilizes department staff resources in employer-facing communications, initiatives, meetings, and events. The Director actively manages performance-based metrics and internal systems to positively impact career-related student outcomes and the employment metrics primarily used and reported in various national and international rankings publications and surveys.

The Director reports to the Associate Deans for MBA Programs and must work collaboratively with program directors and other business unit directors within student engagement, admissions and academics. The Director must also successfully manage partnerships with elected MBA student leaders and numerous industry and career-related centers.

Education and Experience:

Master’s degree is preferred. Ten or more years of work experience in a relevant corporate or educational setting related to business school career services, consulting, technology, marketing, business development, real estate, healthcare, financial services, energy, or technology services is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of MBA career management services and/or MBA leadership development programming is highly desired.

Essential Skills:

Experience formally managing and leading a team and supporting the development and growth of direct reports is required.

Candidate should possess demonstrated experience with strategic planning and problem-solving in a dynamic environment. Strong interpersonal and active listening skills with a comfort level communicating both orally and in writing are required. An ability to interpret data for strategic applications; the ability to work under pressure; flexibility with changing demands, fluctuating workloads, and multiple priorities are imperative. Strong comfort level working in a fast-paced, energetic environment and ability to multitask and meet multiple deadlines. The ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends, and travel to support various job-related functions and events is also required.
