The Position

Biologists conduct fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects and research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; develop and implement project proposals and work plans; prepare recommendations; and participate in public relations activities.

Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.

Incumbent will be responsible for Bull Trout management and implementing management actions to achieve objectives outlined in the 2015 Recovery Plan for the Coterminous United States Population of Bull Trout. The selected applicant will represent NDOW on the Jarbidge Core Area and Upper Snake River Unit teams which will include attending and organizing meetings and coordinating stakeholders including interagency partners, private landowners and industry, and anglers. Incumbent will also be responsible for sportfish management at Elko County waters including Wildhorse Reservoir, Wilson Sink Reservoir, Owyhee River, Bruneau River, and Jarbidge River. Incumbent will be required to work with federal land management agencies and private landowners to construct, build, advise or recommend land management decisions that will benefit critical riparian habitat for all wildlife. Duties will also include developing angling regulations and fish stocking recommendations, completing and analyzing fisheries survey data, completing technical reports, responding to inquiries from the public, and developing new fisheries as opportunities allow. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, wildlife management or closely related field; OR graduation from high school and two years of technical wildlife management or fisheries experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and professional experience in conducting research studies; data collection, analysis and interpretation; and development and implementation of project proposals for fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects.

Special Notes

Work may be performed under adverse weather conditions and include extensive walking under difficult conditions in remote and/or primitive locations. Working on occasional nights and/or weekends may be required. Specialized experience may be required and will be identified at the time of recruitment.

Special Requirements

Statewide travel and outdoor work is required. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
