The Position

Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.

Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

This opening is to fill the Medical Assistance to Aged, Blind, and Disabled (MAABD) Social Services Program Specialist III within the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services, in Carson City or Las Vegas, depending on the location of the selected candidate. Social Services Program Specialist III will be working in the MAABD Program, Eligibility and Payments Unit (E&P). Under general direction of the Social Services Chief, the incumbent will have primary responsibility for MAABD public assistance programs; may serve as an assistant to the Social Services Chief; draft and revise the State plan; draft and oversee the implementation of policies, procedures, and forms; prepare and monitor operating budgets and contracts; conduct research, studies, and surveys; assist with the development of corrective action plans; serve as a Division representative; and coordinate the development and maintenance of computerized systems. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and two years of professional social services, medical assistance programs services, or healthcare services experience which included serving as a consultant to professional/supervisory program personnel; directing the operation of a program unit; coordinating program activities with officials and representatives of other agencies; interpretation and application of complex documents such as federal regulations, technical journals, and legislative studies; writing program policies, procedures, and reports; and conducting research and preparing recommendations for management; OR one year of experience as a Social Services Program Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Additional Position Criteria

This recruitment is only open to current classified employees in state service with at least six months of continuous, full-time equivalent service.
