Cornell Scott Hill Health Corporation Facilities Maintenance Technician - Painter in New Haven, Connecticut

The Facilities Maintenance Technician – Painter is primarily responsible for providing quality patching and painting services across all CSHHC sites, in addition to providing maintenance and environmental support services to the Facilities Department; including general repairs, carpentry, and other handyman/maintenance tasks as directed.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in regularly scheduled walk-throughs of all sites with the Facilities Manager to identify areas in need of patching and painting.

  • Remove and reinstall fixtures (doorknobs, electric switch covers, etc.) as necessary.

  • Prepare surfaces to be painted by washing them, filling holes and cracks with putty and sanding them until they’re smooth.

  • Protect nearby items or furnishing before and during every job, including outlet covers, lighting fixtures, cabinetry and carpets.

  • Apply paint, stain and other finishes to paint surfaces using paintbrushes or rollers.

  • Complete touch-ups to ensure that paint matches and blends with the rest of the area.

  • Complete patch/paint work orders received through Facilities Work Order System as assigned.

  • Maintain an inventory of supplies like paint, paint brushes, rollers and tarps.

  • Building interior/exterior repair of CS-HHC buildings, including activities such as: installation and repair of door closers, thresholds, doors and frames, drywall, carpentry, wall covering, carpet repair, ceiling tile, painting, floor tile installation, etc.

  • Assist with snow and ice removal, including keeping sidewalks and entryways clear.

  • Perform assigned facility inspections and due diligence efforts, reporting on as found conditions impacting satisfactory client occupancy and operations.

  • Respond effectively to emergencies within 2 hours as assigned.

  • Drive company vehicles as needed for facility-related tasks and to/from community events.

  • Support community events by transporting, setting up and taking down equipment, tents, etc. in support of CS-HHC’s community relations and clinical teams.

  • Prepare and submit summary reports to management listing conditions found in the performance of assigned work, and recommend and/or suggest action to be taken.

  • Comply with all safety procedures, maintaining good housekeeping, safety of work areas and company vehicles. Recognize danger and safety hazards and propose methods to eliminate them.

  • Maintain compliance with state, county, and city ordinances, codes and laws.

  • Must be willing and able to support building related activities as required due to weather or emergent conditions.

  • Complete periodic training either online or in person (may be on- or off-site).

  • Safeguard all company and clients assets and electronic devices in your possession.

  • Other assigned operational tasks as may be expected.

  • Performs all other duties as required.

    Qualifications

  • Education: High School degree or related preferred, however, experience and/or training may be considered in lieu of a high school degree. Must also possess the knowledge of basic math and operation of hand and routine power tools required to perform assigned work.

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years working as a Painter in a residential or commercial setting. Familiarity with safe use of hand and power tools is required. Familiarity with healthcare facilities is desired.

  • Knowledge/Abilities: Significant painting knowledge and trade experience. Demonstrated skills in other handyman trade skills, such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, generalized repair. Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Able to use computerized work order system. Able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, and flexible and demonstrate the ability to establish effective working relationships with many different people. Able to distinguish tasks such as plumbing and electrical that require licensed tradesmen.

  • A valid Connecticut State Drivers License is required. Travel within the State of Connecticut is required on a regular basis.
