LSU Health New Orleans School of Division of Animal Care is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Laboratory Technical Assistant 1, 2 or 3. There are multiple vacancies.
As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a (Laboratory Technical Assistant 1, 2, or 3) depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). Please refer to the ‘Job Specifications’ tab located at the top of the LA Careers ‘Current Job Opportunities’ page of the Civil Service website for specific information on salary ranges, minimum qualifications and job concepts for each level.
Payrate is dependent upon applicants’ level of experience. There is an additional $1 Premium Pay and $1 Longevity Pay per hour for “hours worked only”.
These positions are required to work some Weekends and Holidays, hours may vary.
Duties include but are not limited to:
•Operate mechanical cage wash units according to departmental standard operating procedures
•Prepare and assemble animal cage equipment
•Perform basic animal husbandry duties for a variety of research animals
•Perform general housekeeping duties
There are some special requirements to this position:
All new hires will be required to participate in the Division of Animal Care Occupational Health Program mandated by Federal Law.
New Hires will complete a Risk Assessment Evaluation/Review Form, and will be scheduled for the following: Physical, Blood work which includes: Complete blood count, and blood chemistry profile, and measles titer tuberculosis testing.
New Hires may also be scheduled for the following:
Toxoplasmosis Testing (women)
Tetanus/Diphtheria Immunization
Diphtheria/Pertussis/Tetanus ( DTP ) Immunization
Measles, mumps, rubella Vaccine
This is a Civil Service Job.
This position does not require applicants to take a Civil Service test.
Pre-employment Drug testing, TB Skin test and Criminal Background check are required.

EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.
Wraps and sterilizes glassware and equipment, operates gas or steam autoclaves, places sterilized items in dispensing area. Cleans autoclaves, drains screens and glassware washers.
Prepares media, measures, sterilizes and dispenses.
Performs routine capillary and/or venipuncture.
Performs routine blood pathogen screening.
IN AN ANIMAL LABORATORY
Feeds and waters animals.
Cleans cages, runs, and stalls.
Observes animals to note change in their appearance and habits; reports signs of abnormal conditions.
