Overview:

The Infrastructure & Project Finance (“IPF”) team is part of Scotiabank Corporate and Investment (“CIB”) Division. IPF works closely with a wide range of industry coverage and product partners to originate, structure, and execute structured, acquisition, and project financings. IPF provides sector expertise, strategic advisory, and tailored financial solutions to our clients across developed and emerging markets. IPF’s primary focus is providing and arranging debt financing (e.g., greenfield and brownfield projects, corporate, acquisition) and debt advisory services for strategic owners and financial sponsors in the infrastructure space, including ports, airports, toll roads, public infrastructure, renewable energy, conventional power, transmission, digital infrastructure, and energy infrastructure across the Americas.

Position Highlights:

Associates in Infrastructure & Project Finance enjoy a stimulating and challenging work environment in which they execute a broad range of transactions across various forms and sources of debt capital. Associates work on assignments ranging from origination to execution with various industry and product teams at the firm including: Power, Energy, Real Estate, Telecom, Technology, Debt Capital Markets, Global Loan Syndications, Derivative Products Group, Global Risk Management, and Sustainability Finance. Associate will work with colleagues in the United States, Canada, and with local banking teams in Latin America and the Caribbean. Associates will gain knowledge and understanding of bank lending, institutional debt capital markets, and derivative markets.

What You’ll Do

At the early stages of their career, Associates’ responsibilities include preparation of client presentations, due diligence, financial modeling, research, reviewing and providing feedback to legal documentation, supporting internal credit approval processes and mentoring/supervising Analysts. A high degree of responsibility is afforded to those demonstrating initiative and the desire to take on such responsibility As the individual’s career progresses, Associates take on increased responsibilities on live transactions and participating in business development under the guidance of senior team members. Associates are in contact with senior team members and clients at the earliest possible stage, allowing them to gain experience in managing and cultivating relationships.

A significant amount of effort, diligence and initiative is required to properly execute assignments. The complexity of clients’ financial requirements coupled with the intense competitiveness of the banking industry necessitates a full commitment to the task at hand. Standards are very high as most work is presented to senior executives at client firms and supervision is provided only to the extent that it is required.

With a limited hierarchy of professionals and a small project team approach, an Associate has ample opportunity for career growth and development.

New Associates may participate in the Capital Ideas Program, an intensive training program developed by Scotiabank. The program is designed to orient participants to our culture, people, products, and services and to provide the soft and technical skills, and contacts critical for success. Team projects, individual study, and social activities supplement classroom discussions.

As part of the Infrastructure & Project Finance team, the Candidate will, individually and as part of a team, execute the following primary responsibilities:

• Contribute, under supervision of senior team members, to debt raising activities and debt advisory assignments

• Support the due diligence process and preparation of credit presentations, Information Memorandum, and other documentation

• Support structuring and execution of bank and bond infrastructure financings, including contract negotiation, due diligence and consultant management

• Support credit risk and other internal approval processes for loans and counterparty exposures

• Assist capital structure and ratings advisory for infrastructure and project financings

• Develop, manipulate, and maintain project finance models

• Assist in managing transactions through the internal credit process by consultation, analysis, structuring, and communication with credit, regional, and business line managers

• Assist in maintaining and monitoring a portfolio of loans including, as needed, expansions, refinancings, restructurings, exits, etc., based on risk analysis

• Assist in transaction structuring and execution deals efforts with the partner groups and local teams, as applicable

• Support senior team members in negotiating financial structures, including where appropriate derivatives, debt capital markets solutions, and transaction documentation with clients

• Support the partner industry teams and relevant local teams in the preparation of internal credit analysis and comply with internal processes in accordance with the Bank's internal policies and procedures

• Support senior team members in ad hoc tasks

Major Activities Include:

• Reviewing, analyzing, and commenting on due diligence materials and legal documentation

• Preparation of credit applications including a description of the transaction, presentation of the main features, especially focusing on risk and mitigant analysis

• Conducting detailed financial modelling and credit analyses

• Create marketing materials and presentations

• Prepare client presentations, including compiling data and assembling presentation materials

• Build relationships with clients, internal partners, and industry participants including financial, legal and technical advisors

• Collect, consolidate, and interpret company, project, and industry data

• Undertake comparable analysis and make structuring recommendations

• Perform financial and written analysis of companies and industries

• Work with various product teams in order to satisfy client’s needs

• Project and time management

• Provide ongoing credit monitoring and administrative requirements

• Confirm data integrity on Scotiabank’s systems (e.g. Salesforce, Credit 360, etc.)

• Applying industry and product knowledge to support designing financing solutions to help clients achieve their financial objectives

What You’ll Bring

• Minimum 2-3 years of work experience in Corporate or Investment Banking, credit rating agency, or related experience

• Sector experience in power, energy, infrastructure preferred

• Bachelor or Master Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Math, or Engineering

• Proven record of outstanding achievement in academic and extracurricular activities

• Strong quantitative skills focused on financial analysis, accounting, and credit risk

• Must have significant experience developing project finance models with Excel

• Must have significant experience creating marketing materials and presentations in PowerPoint

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• A high level of attention to detail

• Ability to manage multiple projects with different intensity levels simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of work

• Must be a self- starter and proactive by taking initiative and anticipating deal team needs

• Willingness to work hard and excel under pressure amid demanding deadlines

• Success working collaboratively in a team-based environment, underpinned by individual accountability

• Strong analytical, technical problem solving, time management, and organizational skills are a must

• High professional standards including a strong sense of personal integrity

• A demonstrated ability to adapt quickly and constructively to new situations and information

• A high level of energy, with keen desire to learn new concepts and embrace challenge

• Critical thinker, with demonstrated ability to take views and make decisions

• SIE, Series 63 & 79 preferred
