Federated Hermes has a new opportunity for an Associate Investment Analyst / Portfolio Manager Assistant in the Balanced Income Team within our Multi-Asset Group located in our Manhattan, New York office. The ideal candidate will have some investment experience. However, we will consider candidates who are hard-working, initiative-takers, are intellectually curious and investing in the space. The position will report to a Senior Portfolio Manager for the team.Position Specifications:• Bachelor’s degree required; coursework in Finance and Accounting preferred and/or CFA or progress towards CFA helpful.• Some investment experience (up to 2 years) in equity space in a professional/corporate environment which may include internships or exposure to the asset management business preferred.• Advanced computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Bloomberg preferred.• Desire to pursue a career as an investment professional which may be evidenced by prior work experience, investment clubs, etc. • Solid analytical, verbal, and written communication, and decision-making skills required. • A strong work ethic, initiative-taker, and passion for equities.Major Duties:50% Time Allocation• Under the guidance of a Senior Portfolio Manager, the analyst will interview management of companies, meet with Wall Street Analysts, initiate, perform, and maintain in-depth research and analysis of assigned stocks to provide high quality recommendations. The investment analysis will include financial statement analysis, financial modeling, comparable company analysis as well as assessment of industry, currency, political, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) characteristics, and macroeconomic trends.• Utilize analysis to formulate investment ideas and clearly articulate (verbal and written) to portfolio managers for inclusion in portfolios. This includes generating and diligently communicating value-added buy, sell, and hold recommendations in a written and standardized format on individual securities and other information relevant to the portfolio. • With the Portfolio Manager’s oversight, the analyst will stay current on industry trends, new technologies, regulatory changes, and company specific issues. Sources include, but not limited to, industry conferences/seminars, industry publications, public documents, trade journals, C-Suite management interviews, and Wall Street analysts.• Review analyst, company, and industry reports and participate on earnings calls.• Participate in investment meetings within the firm.50% Time Allocation • Assist the Team in oversight and implementation of trades and trading strategies. o Allocations between sub-strategies o Equity trade modeling o Fixed Income duration and yield curve decisions o SMA modeling and implementation• Operations oversight: Ensure all allocation decisions and trade activity is properly implemented and work with the Operations Team to resolve issues as necessary. • Responsible for the timely generation and review of quantitative reports on portfolio performance and attribution for use by Portfolio Manager, Sales/Marketing and Clients. Work with quantitative group to develop and maintain stock screens. Provide additional screen support if needed.• Maintain Separately Managed Accounts (SMA) portfolio by monitoring and adjusting holdings in the model for corporate actions, splits, cash accumulation, etc.• Accurately generate trade tickets as defined by portfolio manager. Research all trading complications, registered countries, restriction requests, corporate actions, trading cash errors, and compliance rules.• Produce and format data for Request for Products (RFPs), sales support, quarterly marketing purposes and special requests.• Maintain and update all Fund presentations.• At each month end, review and correct the Fund Fact Sheets in conjunction with creating quarter end write-ups.• Research client requests, portfolio management and upper management requests, i.e. illiquidity analysis, hypos, proxy votes, peer group and benchmark analysis, new product startups, mergers, etc.• Work on other projects as assigned by manager.• Provide support or assist in gathering information for ad-hoc projects such as benchmark reviews, peer analysis, liquidity analysis, updating marketing materials, etc.The annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 to $95,000.
