Producer, New Yorker Radio Hour

The New Yorker Radio Hour is the unique collaboration between WNYC Studios and the writers and editors of The New Yorker. We’re seeking an experienced, creative Producer to join our small and dynamic team.

The right candidate will be passionate about great writing and inspired by the challenge of crafting the unique radio voice for this legendary magazine. They are an original thinker with ideas about applying the tools of the medium in untraditional ways; creative under pressure and detail-oriented, the Producer has a deep well of experience to draw on. The Producer is an excellent booker of interviews, with the persistence to land in-demand guests; the curiosity to bring new voices and expand the program’s range; and the deep research skills to tease out the most interesting conversations for our host and other interviewers. The needs of making the program require multitasking and flexibility at a high level, but within the deadlines of a weekly program, we strive to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Candidates should expect a very collaborative editorial environment, and should come ready to build relationships with some of the best writers in America.

Responsibilities

  • Find, pitch, and execute ideas for 2-way conversations both within the editorial environment of The New Yorker and from independent research.

  • Write scripts and preps for interviews

  • Collaborate with writers and other talent

  • Record in the field and in studio

  • Write and produce content for web, social media, and other platforms as needed

  • Assist in all aspects of show production as needed.

    Qualifications

  • Five-plus years experience in fast-paced, idea-driven media environments (podcast, radio, television, or related)

  • Fluency in ProTools or comparable editing tools, with competence in scoring, sound design, and use of archival material

  • Superb broadcast writing and editing skills, showing originality and humor

  • Experience working with talent, especially non-radio talent

  • Excellent communication skills, written and spoken

    Additional Information

    This is a full-time exempt role with a salary range of $82,500-$95,000 per year (plus a full benefits package). Salary offered within this range is determined by skills, experience and organizational pay equity. New York Public Radio offers excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance, vacation, personal and sick time as well as inclusive family leave.

    This role is based in New York City and is expected to work onsite at the editorial offices of The New Yorker (1 World Trade) at least 2 days per week.

    This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between New York Public Radio and SAG-AFTRA.
