POSITION DETAILS

The Bursar Specialist will report to the Bursar at The City College of New York. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Bursar Specialist's duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Review all student accounts for past due balances

  • Manage continual outreach via mail, email and phone to students regarding tuition and fee collection

  • Provide reports for the Bursar for past due balances, account holds and potential deregistration for students

  • Ensure Bursar operations adhere to CUNY Cash Accountability Policy and any related campus controls and procedures

  • Advise students and respond to student, faculty and staff inquiries where possible

  • Complete monthly, quarterly and yearly detail-oriented reports

  • Prepares and collects documentation requested by internal auditors

  • Works with other student service departments to collect their audit documents for submission

  • Write and maintain operational manuals

  • Administer processing of transactions such as cash/check/money-order transactions and mailed-in payments utilizing the CUNYfirst system

  • Other Bursar duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to prioritize, plan, organize, and oversee multiple tasks effectively

  • High level interpersonal skills and the ability to resolve difficult situations

  • Demonstrated supervision, and leadership skills

  • Be flexible with work schedule hours

  • Very detail oriented

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Administers a College student accounts function under management direction.

  • Administers processing, collection, reconciliation and maintenance of student receivables including cashier activities; supervises and approves refund process

  • Reviews student accounts; manages delinquent accounts in collaboration with collection agency

  • Advises students on tuition payment options and resolution process

  • Recommends and implements improvements to office operations; assists with strategic planning

  • Serves as resource reference to interpret and comply with University and College policies

  • Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management

  • May supervise office operations and/or department budget

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$54,313 - $64,649. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
