Arnold & Porter Business Development Manager in New York, New York

The Marketing Department of Arnold & Porter has an opening for a Business Development (BD) Manager in the New York or Washington, DC office. The BD Manager will primarily support the Bankruptcy and Tax practices while collaborating with the larger Transactional BD team on various Corporate and Transactions practice initiatives. This position also collaborates with the various functional units within the Marketing and Practice Group Management Departments, including PR & Communications, Events, Market Research and Business Intelligence, as well as the various departments within the firm including the Talent Department, Finance and Pricing and others to contribute to joint firm-wide initiatives.The BD Manager will support a wide variety of projects, pitches and RFPs, directory and award submissions, events, and competitive intelligence research to support cross-selling and identification of business trends and opportunities for the Transactional practices. The ideal candidate is a strong project manager, attentive to detail, collaborative, self-starting, driven, forward thinking, and energetic. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Collaborating with Practice Chairs and Sub-Group Heads to expand business development efforts including contributing to annual business plans and assisting partners with the implementation and execution of such plans, tracking initiatives and outcomes.Managing the marketing and business development activities for the Bankruptcy and Tax practice areas including:Leading responses for RFPs and pitches.Creating content for dynamic presentations in PowerPoint and Word in connection with pitches, events, and client meetings.Supporting follow-up and debrief activities post-pitch and reports them back to BD leadership.Maintaining practice/industry group descriptions.Managing experience data associated with practices.Managing legal directory and league table ranking submissions for your practices and assist the communications team in generation of deal lists and other information for awards submissions.Coordinating logistics of seminars, conferences, and roundtables with the Events Team.Researching and recommending the involvement of firm lawyers in professional organizations that will enhance the visibility of the lawyers and the firm in local, regional, global, and industry platforms.Conducting strategic research on potential clients, competitors, and practice developments more broadly to identify business trends and opportunities and ensuring that Arnold & Porter is optimally positioned to grow market share.Supporting BD aspects of firm-hosted business development events (receptions, client entertainment outings, substantive presentations, etc.), working closely with participating lawyers and Events Team colleagues on invitation list development, event materials, participant tracking, on-site management, and targeted follow-up activities.Collaborating with colleagues across all practice/industry groups and offices to develop cross-marketing opportunities.Working with incoming lateral partners and counsel to assist Practice Chairs and Lateral Committee in the integration of new lawyers into the assigned practice. Building effective agendas for team meetings and facilitating internal communications and knowledge sharing among team members and across the firm.Supporting firm industry and working groups, as needed. Working with the Director of Business Development on initiatives and projects for the Bankruptcy and Tax practices. Qualifications:Four-year degree in marketing, business, finance, English, communications, or other related discipline preferred. Advanced degree a plus. Minimum of six (6) years of marketing and business development experience, with prior law firm bankruptcy and/or tax experience preferred. Flexible, forward thinking, proactive, energetic, and detail-oriented team player.Professional, approachable demeanor, with confidence and competence both in working with senior lawyers and working collaboratively with other lawyers and business services throughout the firm.Excellent project management skills, with keen attention to detail and an ability to prioritize and execute multiple ongoing tasks often under tight deadlines.An ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.“Team player” mentality with great collegiality responding well to an evolving environment and is willing to be flexible and lend support where needed.Superior presentation, writing, and oral communication skills.Excellent editing and proofreading skills.Exceptional Microsoft Office skills, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.Some proficiency in CRM systems - prior experience with Interaction is an asset.The anticipated base salary for this position is $132,000 to $170,000.
