Coordinator Patient Rep Program(Patient Relations), Patient Representative, Mount Sinai West - Full Time, Days

Coordinates the work of Patient Representatives, students and volunteers, and assists in programmatic activities and budgeting. Responds to referrals from patients, families and caregivers and to crisis situations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coordinates work of Patient Representatives, students and volunteers in the department.

  2. Assists in the development of budgets.

  3. Develops and analyzes data pertaining to department activities, monitors trends in patients' perceptions of services and drafts reports on these and related subjects.

  4. Participates in special studies or projects related to improving patient satisfaction.

  5. Receives and responds to referrals from patient/families, professional and administrative staff and the community. Responds to crisis situations and anger and anxiety of patient/families and staff, requiring high level of interpersonal and communication skills.

  6. Is involved in problems of consent procedures, helping patients to understand risks and benefits and assuring that they are given the opportunity and time necessary to discuss and consider procedures and alternatives.

  7. Assists in cases where patient is threatening to leave the hospital against medical advice.

  8. Responds to patients problems, concerns and unmet needs to promote patient satisfaction with services. Investigates complaints through interviews with hospital personnel and review of patient documentation including patient charts. Explains resolution of problems or concerns to patient/families and to appropriate hospital personnel.

  9. Participates in developing and presenting orientation and in-service educational programs to various hospital departments, medical students and volunteers in relation to the Patient's Bill of Rights. Maintains an awareness of patient/family perception of care, and helps to facilitate improvement of staff attitude.

  10. Interviews patients and families in cases of hospital inability. Makes recommendations to Risk Management.

  11. Documents problems identified, services provided and action taken according to established hospital procedure.

QUALIFICATIONS

BA/BS degree in behavioral science, social work, or related field is preferred, or combination of equivalent experience and education.

2+ years related experience in a healthcare environment, particularly in patient advocacy.

Bilingual (Spanish/English) candidates preferred.

General Skills and Competencies

  1. Must have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  2. Must possess necessary computer skills to operate the various programs used in the department.

  3. Must have the ability to analyze a situation in order to facilitate an appropriate resolution of an identified problem.

Compensation Statement

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for this role is $62,571.36 - $67,500.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
