The anticipated salary range for this role is between $95,000.00 and $105,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

This role supports Associates and more senior team members of the Bank's Fund Finance Solutions Department (“FFSD”), including preparing credit applications, reviewing loan reports, providing research and analysis and generally assisting marketing staff, as needed.

Reporting to Associate/VP members of FFSD, scope of responsibilities includes assisting the deal team in origination and pitching, debt arranging, and deal monitoring for subscription facilities related to capital commitment fund financing.

Role Objectives: Delivery

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates a high degree of attention to detail and an ability to complete work accurately and precisely in a timely manner against strict deadlines with credit, risk, and operations.

  • Demonstrates solid technical proficiency using all SMBC analytical tools including the Microsoft suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), financial models, GBR, Bloomberg, Capital IQ and SMBC systems necessary to perform the responsibilities of the role.

  • Proactively manage Covenant Monitoring, Customer and Investor Grading, Annual Reviews, and ongoing monitoring (including but not limited to Conditions and Instructions). Manage portfolio and reporting tasks on monthly basis to eradicate overdue items.

  • Adhere to, and demonstrate a strong facility with, Group underwriting standards and Credit Policies and Procedures.

  • Support relationship manager with new deal closings. Support will include compiling due diligence materials, assisting with the credit memo, working on KYC and assisting with closings.

  • Demonstrates a strong knowledge of financial statements and is able to provide insightful analysis proficiently.

  • Learn the basic structure of subscription facilities including key documentation.

Critical Job Knowledge and Core Competencies:

  • Working knowledge of financial modeling/valuation and analytical skills

  • Working knowledge of corporate finance and accounting, and experience analyzing company financials.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple projects.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrates a high attention to detail and an ability to complete work accurately and in a timely manner against strict deadlines.

  • Working knowledge of bank regulations, risk and compliance factors and regulatory matters.

Qualifications and Skills

Work Experience:

  • 0-2 years of specialized experience in Financial Services

  • Minimum of 1 years working at a corporate bank or similar financial institution

Education:

  • Required: BA/BS

  • Preferred: MA/MS/MBA

  • CFA Plus

Language Skills: Business fluency in English

Software Systems: Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Powerpoint
