The NYU McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research at the NYU Silver School of Social Work is seeking to recruit a new member of our team to manage two, multi-year, federally-funded randomized controlled trials supporting mental health: (1) Safe Mothers, Safe Children (SMSC), an initiative to improve the identification and treatment of mothers with trauma-related disorders who are raising young children, and receiving child welfare preventive services and (2) WeCare , a study examining the effectiveness of a systems-level strategy to recognize and respond to suicide risk among Black youth who present to emergency departments.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator, and working in collaboration with the executive leadership team, the Project Director (PD) will lend their expertise and leadership to oversee these ongoing research studies at NYU McSilver, including but not limited to: administrative oversight, implementation activities, reporting, manuscript preparation, and coordination with the research team, as well as internal and external stakeholders. They will work with faculty and students on these research projects and supervise study staff. To be successful, the PD must be prepared to navigate in a fast-paced, outcomes-driven environment.

Responsibilities :

  • Provide overall management of the two research projects in consultation with the Principal Investigator and project teams;

  • Support the Principal Investigator in forecasting project needs, execution of overall project requirements and effectively solve problems as they arise;

  • Coordinate the research process to ensure that deliverables are completed in a timely manner and in accordance with grant objectives, project plans and deadlines;

  • Analyze and compile complex data for decision-making, policy changes, and identifying potential opportunities for growth and innovation;

  • Ensure that research activities do not violate ethical or legal standards;

  • Provide leadership and supervision to research teams, including hiring, onboarding, and training staff members;

  • Support budgets and expenses for studies;

  • Fundraise and support proposal development;

  • Collaborate with investigators and consultants on research study aims;

  • Lead the research administration efforts on behalf of studies (i.e. submit progress reports, have regular budget meetings, oversee participant engagement, etc.);

  • Ensure technical, scientific, fiscal, administrative, and reporting obligations required by funding agencies are met.

  • PhD or equivalent qualifications in public health, social sciences, or health sciences (May consider Master’s-level preparation with extensive research experience);

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of research administration and evaluation experience, and a minimum three (3) years of leadership experience, preferably in an academic setting but could also be in a nonprofit, government, or philanthropic setting;

  • Demonstrated understanding of research models, methodology, and processes;

  • Demonstrated experience in building and/or managing a high-performing team for translational and/or applied, community-based research;

  • Ability to compose reports, presentations, and written communication in an organized, logical, and concise manner;

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to represent the organization externally across a wide range or stakeholders and constituencies;

  • Ability to successfully navigate in a fast-paced, outcomes-driven environment.

    Additional Information

    This position is full-time and includes a generous benefits package. In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $100,000-$130,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

    Currently, NYU McSilver is operating on a hybrid schedule, all staff are expected to be onsite 3 days a week.

    Please note: this is a grant-funded position with the opportunity for ongoing renewal reviewed on an annual basis. This position does not qualify for visa sponsorship.
