Quantitative Research E-Trading Data Engineer Team Description

QR eTrading is a quantitative research group within JP Morgan which partners with the electronic trading desk and technology teams to develop cutting edge quantitative models and data products used by JP Morgan's algorithmic trading systems across multiple trading desks and external clients. The QR data function within the QR eTrading team works closely with quantitative researchers, the trading desk and data & analytics technology teams.

Job Summary:

As a Quantitative Research - ETRADING Data Engineer - Vice President within the QR eTrading team, you will help design and build the data platform that underpins the algo trading engines, the quantitative research environment, and electronic trading desk. You will work alongside researchers within the QR team and closely with the electronic trading product and technology data and analytics teams. This role provides you with the opportunity to guide and shape the direction of the platform.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design/architect the core data products used by the trading desk and trading engines, and that are built and maintained by the data & analytics team. This will involve working with the trading desk to understand their needs/usage and working closely with the data & analytics team to prototype solutions, discuss architecture decisions, and help with testing/rollout of new features.

  • Develop and curate high quality datasets to enable researchers to develop quantitative models used across trading algorithms and performance analysis.

  • Build tooling used by both researchers and the trading desk for data processing, modelling and analysis.

  • Provide a common data infrastructure and libraries to support the creation, curation and analysis of these datasets and tools.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills

  • Masters/PhD in STEM subject such as computer science, engineering, maths/statistics, physics.

  • 5 years of experience in position(s) with similar responsibilities/technologies/business area.

  • Experience working with high volumes of structured data (e.g. time series, tick data).

  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate with equally well with business users and technology teams.

  • Experience working with q/kdb or similar

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills

  • Experience designing/architecting databases/data products

  • Experience with Python, AWS and/or other database/data processing technologies

  • Knowledge of cash equity markets and microstructure

  • Knowledge of algorithmic trading systems
