Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Urban Places Practice is seeking an urban designer/planner to work with senior staff as part of a multi-disciplinary design team including planners, urban designers, mobility experts, landscape architects, architects, civil engineers and other technical experts on a wide variety of projects with public and private entities. Our clients include local, state and federal agencies, large institutions and private developers.

The Urban Designer/Planner will work on a variety of exciting projects that could include strategic plans, physical master planning, zoning and entitlements, campus, streetscape, and pedestrian plans, and design guidelines, among others. Candidates with a combination of strong writing and graphics skills, research and analytical capabilities, and experience with urban design projects are strongly encouraged to apply. The Urban Planner/Designer must be able to work independently and with a team of multi-disciplinary professionals.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams of planners, designers, engineers, and specialists on a variety of projects.

  • Contribute to all phases of projects including analysis, design, public engagement, and final production.

  • Create drawings and graphics including maps, diagrams, sketches, renderings, and 3D models.

  • Assist with research, data collection and analysis for use in planning, design, policy development and implementation.

  • Prepare presentation quality materials for client exhibits, in-person and online community engagement events, public presentations, and plan documents for online and hard copy publication.

  • Work directly with clients and team members to develop and help implement citywide, area-based and corridor plans, create/advance master plans/site plans, conduct inclusive community engagement, develop zoning proposals, and manage land development entitlement processes.

  • Provide project and task assistance to various planning and urban design teams across the company.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Knowledge and understanding of the process, tools and techniques of urban policy development and implementation.

  • Excellent graphic, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent research and analysis skills with qualitative and quantitative data relevant to urban planning and design.

  • Proficiency with GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong working knowledge of Rhinoceros/SketchUp and/or other 3D visualization software is a plus.

  • A passion for placemaking, walkability, sustainability, resilience, and innovation in urban design and planning.

  • An understanding of urban form, urban typologies, and best practices in urban design and planning.

  • Experience with the production of planning reports and documents and a thorough knowledge and familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Ability to engage effectively with a wide variety of clients and stakeholders.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

  • Location in NYC is preferred.

Education and Experience

  • A graduate degree in Urban Design, Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or a related field.

  • One to four years of relevant experience.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • NYC $74,300 - NYC $104,100 Min/Max Pay Range(s) for postings located in NYC/NY

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
