Full compensation range for this role is $86,600- $129,800 + a quarterly bonus plan.

Position Description:

The Senior Research Associate (SRA) will serve as a key member of the ACD Professional Assay Services (PAS) department, performing RNAscope assay services for industrial, pharmaceutical, and academic sponsors to detect RNA targets of interest. An additional critical work component will be the application of immunohistochemistry (IHC) to look for specific protein targets. The position will have an opportunity to work closely with scientists and investigators from a broad customer base.

It is expected that the Sr. Research Associate will independently collect and interpret data based on project expectations, which has implications for many downstream applications, such as biomarker validation and cell and gene therapy. The SRA will also be expected to independently utilize available resources for any required troubleshooting and communicate clearly with sponsors through both electronic mail and teleconference channels. The SRA must also coordinate with internal research and development (R&D) team to learn new techniques quickly and be able to adapt to shifting priorities in a fast- paced and growing start-up environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform manual and automated RNAscope assays to evaluate sponsor-provided cell/tissue samples

  • Perform immunohistochemistry (IHC) on sponsor-provided cell/tissue samples to detect protein targets of interest

  • Follow protocols for co-detection of both RNA and proteins

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data

  • Perform digital slide scanning, imaging, and fluorescent microscopy to acquire images

  • Generate and create custom reports to deliver to sponsors

  • Provide sponsors with updates as to the status of their projects

  • Deliver projects to sponsors within stipulated turn-around times

  • Utilize available resources to independently troubleshoot any issues encountered during project execution

  • Coordinate with internal R&D team to learn and apply novel assay types to new sponsor projects

  • Ensure proper maintenance and working condition of automation equipment

  • Maintain sample inventory and logs for slide tracking

  • Ensure adequate stocks of required reagents and consumables to run assays

  • Present at group meetings

  • Lead teleconference meetings with industry, pharmaceutical, and academic sponsors

  • Ensure adherence to Compliance regulations

  • Maintain clean and organized personal/general laboratory spaces

  • Provide consistent updates on project status to internal teams

  • Perform additional laboratory duties as assigned

Occasional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Some travel to sponsor sites <10%

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • A BS (with 3-4 years industry experience)/MS (with 0-2 years industry experience) in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology or related field

  • At least 2 years of experience in slide-based assays such as immunohistochemistry (IHC) and in situ hybridization (ISH)

  • Knowledge on slide imaging/microscopy techniques

  • At least 1-2 years of experience in communicating directly with customers

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in gene expression assays such as qPCR, PCR and RNAseq highly preferred

  • Experience in histology and related staining methods is preferred

  • Experience working in aCROor service environment is preferred

  • Critical thinking skills to assess experimental data and independently troubleshoot as needed

  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong team player and self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage time efficiently

  • Experience in a multi-disciplinary environment with a proven track record of cross functional collaborations with other team members

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 15-20lbs daily

  • May be on computer monitor and keyboard for long periods of time
