The Center for PreCollege Programs' (CPP) serves more than 2,000 students and parents annually through the facilitation of a variety of programs. It houses three TRIO programs of Talent Search (2) and Upward Bound, PreCollege STEM Academy, Dual Enrollment, University-Assisted Partnerships, the Tutoring Spot, and the Rutgers Future Scholars Program, in addition to other special interest programs. Posting Summary
Rutgers University-Newark, an urban, public research university and anchor institution located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking Part-Time College Mentors (Temporary) reporting to the Associate Director of the Center for PreCollege Programs. seeks dynamic, culturally responsive, human-centered Precollege Mentors to assist with adaptive school-based and Saturday programming for 6th-12th grade students.The mentor's duties include, and are not limited, to the following:
  • Facilitate individual and group mentoring and/or tutoring activities (in person and remotely) to foster and build appropriate mentoring relationships with students to encourage and support the college-going culture.
  • Assist with programming and/or workshop facilitation and program activities as assigned;
  • Assist with program activity design for youth development activities;
  • Act as support chaperone trips
  • Maintain accurate service logs to track student attendance, participation & performance;
  • Prepare reports as required through database entry and tracking;
  • Document program services via video and pictures

This position is contingent upon the continuation of grant funding.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent, and/or up to 4 years of relevant office, clerical, bookkeeping, library assistant or related experience depending on the duties to be performed.
An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Certifications/Licenses
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Demonstrate strong organization, professionalism, creativity and diplomacy skills;
  • Possess the ability to interpret and adhere to policies, and take ownership of tasks;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • High school diploma and a minimum completion of 2 semesters of college with a combination of education and/or experience in facilitating team building, mentoring workshops or tutoring for high school students.
  • Must complete the Protection of Minors Training and background check.
