Food Service Representative – Patient Services

Position Summary:

Maintains the activities of the food service operations. Prepares and services meals for retail, patient services, catering, off-site locations and special events. Adheres to the policies and procedures for the Food and Nutrition Services Department. Maintains quality and exceptional customer experience.

REPORTS TO:

Supervisor Dietary Services and the Manager, Food Services

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

  • Work assigned station on Patient Tray Line. Places standard items on patient trays as described on patient menu and in accordance with portion control standards. Assures tray accuracy and adheres to proper time and temperature procedures. Stocks, replenishes, and sets up necessary stations on the patient tray line. Breaks down and cleans stations on tray line as assigned. Loads and unloads patient trays into the designated service trucks.

  • Prepares, sets up, and maintains assigned service stations in the retail and catering areas. Sets up and maintains necessary supplies from the appropriate storage area. Sets up and prepares necessary food items such as breads, coffee, grilled to order items, sandwich preparation, salad bar preparation, and other requirements in accordance with retail and regulatory standards.

  • Potions, assembles, dates, and labels Patient and Non-Patient food items including garnishes, special items, desserts, salads, beverages, salad platters, and other items as described in the patient/non-patient menus. Assist in the portioning and pre-preparation for production.

  • Works in the dish room: scrapping trays, loading the dish machine, unloading the dish machine, sorting and cleaning silverware, cleaning and sanitizing of small wares, pots, pans, and other cooking utensils/equipment in accordance with all regulatory and department standards. Sets up and cleaning of dish machine and three bay sink in accordance with all regulatory standards. preparing of silverware, cleaning and sanitizing patient and non-patient trays and components. Sweep and mops floors in kitchen and service areas. Cleans tables, counters, kitchen equipment to include but not limited to, refrigerators/freezers/ ovens, steam tables, mixers, food dispensing machines, slicers, fryers, chairs, cabinets, patient unit refers/freezers, spills and service type sanitation needs, etc, using standard procedures for cleaning and sanitizing.

  • Maintains proper pre and post service sanitation for assigned work station. Removes and bags refuse and other garbage including cardboard, fryer grease, and disposes proper according to all regulatory standards. Cleans and replenishes hand washing stations.

  • Delivers and retrieves trucks to units in timely and professional manner following scanning procedure for documenation. Delivers trays and retrieves trays to patients with professionalism and in a courteous fashion. Adheres to all regulatory standards.

  • Delivers call backs, between meal nourishments, and late trays to the patient floor in a timely and courteous fashion. Sets up floor stock delivery carts and delivers to appropriate nursing units pantry according to CaterTrax orders. Ensures that food and non-food items are stored properly in accordance with all regulatory standards. Records temperatures of refrigeration/freezer units daily. Monitors and records inventory levels and usage of items supplied.

  • Fills assigned service station both hot and cold. Includes but not limited to grill station, salad bar, tray line stations, sandwich station, cashiers’ station, etc. Provides for customer needs in an accurate, courteous and safe manor for retail, catering and in-house customers.

  • Sets up, serves, and cleans up catered and special functions. Prepares necessary items for the functions and delivers in a timely fashion.

  • Maintains a friendly, efficient, and professional attitude towards all customers including patients, in house and retail. Reports to work as scheduled with proper clean uniform. Presenting a professional image.

  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminar, conferences, and professional affiliation. Maintains appropriate competencies.

  • Acts as Mentor/Buddy for on-the-job training for new employees.

  • Responsible for all other tasks as assigned.

    None

    Qualifications:

    High School Diploma or equivalent. ServSafe or equivalent certification preferred.

    Requirements:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat. Frequent lifting, walking, pushing, pulling and/or carrying exceeding 50 lbs. Frequent bending and stooping. Spends long periods of time standing.

Required:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.

  2. 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Preferred:

  1. At least one (1) year of food service or retail customer service experience preferred.
