The Box Office Supervisor plays a critical role in supporting the Box Office Manager in overseeing all operational aspects of the box office, including event management, staffing, cash control, and external relations for venues such as Scope Arena, Chrysler Hall, Attucks Theatre, Harrison Opera House, and Scope Plaza, as well as ticketing responsibilities for City of Norfolk events at Harbor Park, Wells Theatre, and Open Air Events. Key responsibilities include building, managing, and maintaining events within TM1 and Archtics ticketing systems, troubleshooting event issues, and ensuring seamless execution of scheduled events. The Supervisor conducts daily balancing, depositing, and reporting of ticket office receipts, generates sales reports, and assists with group sales initiatives. They manage and mentor ticket sellers and supervisors, oversee schedules, and act as a liaison across departments, promoters, and tenants to communicate event details. Additionally, they contribute to hiring, training, and providing ongoing feedback to staff, ensuring superior customer service standards are met while handling other duties as assigned by the manager.
Department Salary Hiring Range: $41,775 - $48,041
Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Manage Ticketing Systems: Build, manage, and maintain events in TM1 and Archtics ticketing systems as assigned. Troubleshoot any issues that arise during event setup and execution.
Event Coordination: Work scheduled events across Scope Arena, Chrysler Hall, Attucks Theatre, Harrison Opera House, Scope Plaza, Harbor Park, Wells Theatre, and Open Air Events.
Financial Management: Review and perform balancing, depositing, and reporting of daily ticket office receipts. Create and distribute ticket office sales reports to relevant stakeholders.
Group Sales Assistance: Assist with group sales initiatives, ensuring efficient handling of large ticket orders and special accommodations.
Supervision and Training: Manage and supervise ticket sellers and ticket seller supervisors. Establish and communicate ticket seller schedules. Participate in hiring and training processes, providing feedback on staff performance, and suggesting improvements to procedures.
Interdepartmental Liaison: Serve as a point of contact between departments, contractors, and tenants, ensuring effective communication of event details, controls, and procedural changes.
Customer Service: Provide superior customer service to all patrons, addressing inquiries, concerns, and special requests with professionalism and efficiency.
Additional Responsibilities: Undertake other tasks as assigned by the Box Office Manager, contributing to the overall success of box office operations.
Education/Experience
Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with a two year associate's degree, diploma or equivalent from a college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
Minimum 5 years of box office experience.
At least 2 years in a supervisory or management position within a box office setting.
Additional Information & Requirements
Work Location: 201 E. Brambleton Ave., Norfolk, VA 23510
Work Hours: 40+ hours per week, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus for applications received on or after February 22, 2022. The signing bonus will be paid in two (2) increments: $2,500 upon completion of 60 days of employment, and $2,500 upon completion of your probationary period. To receive the signing bonus, you must be an active employee in good standing.
Regular full-time and permanent part-time employees may receive paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, employer paid pension plan, basic life insurance, voluntary participation in medical and dental, Section 457 deferred compensation, long-term disability, optional life insurance for self, spouse and children, medical and dependent care reimbursement plans, access to membership in credit union and employer provided parking.
Special project/grant employees are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full-time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending upon funding and authorization.
Temporary/seasonal and part-time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union.
Retirement
If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
