Job Summary and Qualifications

The Trauma Program Manager (TPM) works with the Trauma Medical Director (TMD) and hospital leadership to assure optimal trauma patient care services, quality outcomes and compliance with standards for Trauma Center designation and verification. The TPM strives to achieve successful outcomes for all care and programs associated with the trauma service, serves as operational director for all program initiatives and requirements. The TPM is involved with administrative operations, financial support, clinical services, educational activities, outreach initiatives, and research activities of the Trauma Center. This position maintains responsibility/accountability for 24-hour day management.

What you will do in this role:

  • Maintains competency in the principles of Emergency/Trauma nursing; acts as a resource to unit staff regarding trauma care; responsible for the development of the trauma program, policies, and education of the staff.

  • Manages trauma care; maintains trauma register; maintains trauma designation process; participates in disaster planning, hospital and community drills.

  • Coordinates Emergency Medical Services (community) agency performance improvement program with Emergency Department; serves as a liaison to area EMS/Fire Department services; coordinates clinical education programs for EMS services in this facility.

  • Utilizes NHH and community resources to coordinate external and internal programs including but not limited to: Disaster Preparedness, Shattered Dreams; trauma education; Regional Advisory Council on Trauma.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of state regulations and rules including but not limited to: JCAHO, EMTALA, Texas Department of Health; Texas Department of Emergency Medical Services. Informs Director and/or Senior Management of potential violations. Attend at least one TOPIC (Trauma Outcome Performance Improvement) course, attends at least one Trauma Coordinators Course.

  • Reviews records for performance improvement; maintains statistical data related to department; reports data to ED Director and Trauma/Medical Director.

  • Follows established nursing process including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation; communicates collaborative with other health care providers.

  • Manages the tasks of the Trauma Registrar.

What qualifications you will need:

Education, Licensure/certification/registration:

  • Bachelors of Nursing required.

  • RN license in the state Texas.

  • Current CPR Healthcare provider from AHA or ARC, ACLS from AHA or ARC, TNCC and ENPC required; PALS preferred, CEN preferred.

Experience:

  • 3 years trauma registry experience.

  • Experience with ICD-9 Coding, medical terminology, and or physiology/disease process education.

  • Chart review and/or data abstraction experience preferred.
