Job Title: Associate Dean of Admissions and Director of Diversity Outreach and Recruitment Department: Admissions Division: Admissions and Student Financial Aid Classification: Exempt Grade: 12 FTE: 1.0 Position Overview: The Associate Dean of Admissions for Diversity Outreach and Recruitment supports Carleton s diversity goals by providing leadership in communicating to, recruiting, and enrolling underrepresented students, including students who are first-generation and low-income. In supervising the members of the Access and Diversity Team in the Admissions Office, the Associate Dean of Admissions collaborates with the Vice President and Dean and Senior Associate Dean and Director of Admissions to strategize, design, and execute critical outreach, recruitment, and yield programs to support underrepresented students and their families. Oversight of programs include: fall and spring fly-in programming initiatives, the Carleton Liberal Arts Experience (CLAE), partnership with the Posse Program and QuestBridge, and other recruitment programs focused on enhancing the College s profile with community-based organizations and other relevant access partners. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean and Director of Admissions, the Associate Dean of Admissions supervises three professional staff members in addition to some specialized student ambassadors. The Associate Dean will be highly collaborative and involved in all aspects of the division s work to outreach, recruit, and enroll bright, highly engaged, and diverse students with an eye towards supporting the college s Community Plan for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity and the Carleton 2033 strategic direction Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities: Provides leadership in setting and meeting Carleton s diversity goals by coordinating the Office of Admissions operations related to access, diversity, and inclusion. Manages individual and team projects, utilizing qualitative and quantitative data to inform strategic planning and decision-making, and directing the development and timely execution of all access and inclusion-related activities. Has primary responsibility for overseeing the division s diversity and outreach programs, including fly-in programs and the Carleton Liberal Arts Experience (CLAE), through the promotion of programs, supporting a broad-based team approach to managing programs, coordination of yield and event planning, in addition to organizing division staffing for relevant recruitment travel. Manages staff overseeing college partnerships with nationwide college access organizations, such as Posse and QuestBridge, directing the outreach, recruitment, and selection efforts for prospective students affiliated with these programs. Coordinates and manages Access and Diversity Team-driven portions of Carleton s virtual and on-campus recruitment and yield programs. Liaises with other Admissions Office teams, including the Campus Visits and Communications teams, to ensure proper messaging and support for diversity initiatives. Leverages Technolution s Slate CRM to communicate, recruit, and monitor engagement with students, parents, college counselors and other relevant influencers. Participates in all aspects of the general admission cycle, including: o Maintaining a recruitment territory, working in consultation with the Director and others to design and execute targeted recruitment travel. o Reading of first-year and transfer applications and serving on the Admissions Committee; with the intent to recommend students for admission. o Leading information sessions, to provide a refined overview of the liberal arts experience at Carleton. o Conducting on- and off-campus individual interviews, to assess a student s interest in and fit for admission. o Advising prospective students on admission and financial aid policies and practices in written and verbal communication. o Reporting and monitoring of recruitment goals and program responsibilities. Serves as mentor for sta f, managing their time and training, and overseeing their handling of event and project coordination. Represents the College to external agencies and groups, including attending regional, national, and international conferences and meetings to maintain the College s visibility. Serves on college committees and collaborates with other offices and departments at the college to support diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. Works to create and encourage an open, welcoming, and inclusive environment in admissions that actively supports prospective students and their families. Manages diversity and access budgets to support recruitment and outreach activities. Coordinates special projects/tasks and/or directs divisional programming events, in consultation with the Senior Associate Dean & Director of Admissions or other senior members of the staff. Supervision Received and Exercised: Reports to the Senior Associate Dean and Director of Admissions. In consultation with the Vice President and Dean and Senior Associate Dean and Director of Admissions, the Associate Dean will implement diversity-related recruitment strategies and devise yield strategies for the general admitted student population.
