Job Summary
The Coastal Ecology and Seagrass Biology Lab in the School of Ocean Science and Engineering at The University of Southern Mississippi seeks a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in seagrass biology and ecology for studies to include trends in seagrass distribution and condition over time; reproductive ecology and physiology; and restoration. Individuals with experience understanding seagrass ecosystems, with specific knowledge of biology and ecology, are encouraged to apply.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Engage in a project studying trends in seagrass distribution and condition over time, reproductive ecology and physiology and/or restoration.
Develop expertise in seagrass biology and ecology and contribute new knowledge and ideas to this area of research.
Participate in planning and executing field work in nearshore seagrass ecosystems in the Gulf of Mexico.
Contribute significantly to written and oral communication, including the development of peer-reviewed manuscripts, reports, website content, and public outreach products.
Participate in student mentoring, and perform other duties as assigned by the study PI.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctoral degree from an accredited university or college in coastal or marine sciences, biology, ecology, or a related discipline.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Proficiency with standard laboratory techniques.
Experience working on small boats and in shallow, nearshore ecosystems,
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to contribute to and lead development of reports, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and outreach activities.
Ability to participate in fieldwork.
Experience with a range of statistical methods and spatial analysis tools including GIS or a related software (such as Q-GIS).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience driving small boats.
